Cosmic Storms effects with no DLC
I'm on year 2306, and I think the Cosmic Storms update dropped during this playthrough (not sure, I've been busy through the week and mostly playing weekends lately). I don't have the dlc, but I have noticed some small related things, like some new archaeology sites and a storms intensity tooltip when mousing over a system. However, I just got a Stardust Storm. Checking an affected planet, I'm getting the buffs and debuffs I assume would apply to this storm, but without the dlc, I have no access to the tech to mitigate these effects. It's really annoying, because I had no interest in having these mechanics and didn't plan on buying. It feels like I'm being punished for not having this. Is there a mod to turn off these effects, or maybe an option in the settings for a new game? It would be a bit annoying to have to start over, but better than just "here's some consequences, deal with it".

Archaeological site Green Skies now requires Cosmic Storms DLC - you should no longer get Storms without the DLC enabled.

same last night slightly early in playthrough, i got two new graphics for cosmic storms with tooltips to boot. Also a new relic....From what i thought i knew most storms where removed from the base game. Now i got two storms that are actually new to me.

Proof that they put the data for the DLC in before you actually purchase it.

That's known since forever, since you can paly with people who have DLC and you'll have access to that content.

Storms don't exist if you don't have the DLC enabled.

They even removed that one galaxy-wide storm event.

@CrUsHeR They clearly do. As stated above, I don't even own the dlc, yet I'm getting the storm, effects, and tooltips. Just no tech and buildings, unless an event or archaeology site will open one up. I expected some changes without the dlc, as usual with the related updates, but not any actual storms. I think it was supposed to last like 64 years. I'm just getting back to this since I quit this morning. I'll check out the new game settings to see if there is anything. I might just go back to BG 3 and work on that playthrough.

They do not. The entire feature only exists with the DLC enabled.

So this is clearly not like in CK3, where plagues happen regardless of having the DLC.

You also wrote that you're playing with an old savegame from before the DLC.
Which is almost always a guarantee to have your game collapse on itself.

@CrUsHeR First, I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but they are for me. Yes, I believe this game was started before the update. I did not buy the dlc. There is currently a Stardust Storm affecting 11 systems across 3 empires. I have the stars in a cloud with a lightning bolt underneath icon, the same as the one on the wiki.

Hurricane Ju-Ta
Srardust Storm
(Text wall of various modifiers that I'm not typing out)

If I could post screenshots it would be easy to prove, but I can't, and I don't use discord or any of the various other....discussion sites? I don't really get what they're for. I wouldn't have made the post if there was nothing odd going on. I don't understand how game development works, so maybe the code is patched in, but not meant to take effect until purchase. In that case, this could be a bug.

Anyway, there are no related options in the new game settings, so I'll just hop over to BG3 and play that for a while.

Ill try to be more specific for my scenario. Iron man, no mods, current patch, new game, no comsmic storms dlc purchased. I have 2 cosmic storms happening, right now in my game and i got a relic i havent seen before. Will be laborious and produce screenshots if i must. The whole reason i came to the forums this morning was to see if anyone else was experiencing this or if my vast amount of hours on this game has finally earned me recognition from paradox and they gave me the dlc for free....which they didnt because my library still wants me to purchase it.

I got some buggy pirate fleet called the green skies pirates who seem to have kicked off the cosmic storms. buggy as in their name has underscores.
Sabaithal Oct 20, 2024 @ 5:58pm
Actually seen it happen before too (I don't have cosmic storms). A storm kicked off really suddenly and wrecked part of the galaxy. Like really suddenly. And I know it was bugged because the game crashed right after that.

Reloaded the save and it didn't happen again. It was really strange though.

@Hyderlic I didn't get the fleet, but they were part of an archaeology site. I think it was called Green Skies. I don't remember the beginning, but eventually a Green Sky storm happens (as a dig site event, not actually in game play) and my scientist is out of contact. Then these guys contact me for ransom, which I paid, and the scientist and crew are released, ending the dig site. Did you reject the ransom, and a hostile fleet spawned?
CrUsHeR Oct 20, 2024 @ 7:51pm
Okay so the Green Skies does add a storm, but only to the system of the archaeology site

You do know that steam hosts screenshots right? Don't need to use an external service, just use the steam screenshot thing (F12 by default I think)

If you think you have a bug and want to report it, this is the wrong space. You want to drop it on the Paradox forums where it stands a chance of actually being picked up by the devs. Steam is more for whining, trolling, and (occasionally) getting gameplay/mod advice.
Hyderlic Oct 21, 2024 @ 10:23am
So i attacked the fleet, didnt get anything from it. The storm eventually moved out of my systems and life returned to normal as if nothing ever occured
