I really REALLY dislike this updates leader changes.
My leaders get nearly nothing except planetary traits.
they cost a ton of unity as upkeep. where normally i'd have 50+ unity a month as a SPIRITUALIST EMPIRE. i now get less then 20 due to all the leader upkeep. and it just gets worse and worse as they level up because the upkeep goes up every level.

I haven't yet tested the new update because my UI mods crashes the game on start up. Have to wait until I get updates to those.

Sounds pretty horrible. Is this intentional that the devs nerfed the Unity production ? Or is this more like classic "new update bug".

Well the min-maxing of leaders from the Paragon update seems to be gone. Leaders generally won't have "perfect" trait combos

Some things also seem like bugs, example the Scout trait is in the list for Scientist traits, which only works when commanding a military fleet

I was wondering if it was just me getting unity starved in the early game.

I specifically went fanatic materialist so I could get all my amenities from culture workers, with the expectation that in the course of topping up my amenities I'd be rolling in unity as a side-effect. How it happened, though, was that I literally went negative unity for part of the first 40 years, and it seemed no matter how many administration buildings I made it would hardly pull ahead of 0 production for a few years before it would crash again.

I honestly can't put my finger on why unity is so hard to get in the early game now. I don't think we have more leaders, or that they are higher level. By mid game, I'm making unity in the thousands, so it's probably only an early game thing.

New version is a hefety downgrade of the game.

I was rolling in unity with spiritualist checking out the new start, but i didn't max out my number of leaders just scientist and kept one admin one commander early game.

I played spiritualist. and while i didn't go into the negatives. i sure as hell was not rolling in it. it was abysmally low.

It sounded horrible to me in the announcements, but everyone was so busy fawning over it for some reason.
They seem to be going out of their way to ruin leaders.

So I am running a DND campaign where I make new players roll up characters old school, 3d6 no rerolls, in order - you don't get to arrange stats, and you have to pick your race/class before rolling those stats. As expected, we got some crazy characters running around. They call themselves the loser squad.

The loser squad could curbstomp these leaders and rule the galaxy like a pack of geniuses. This update is heinous.

I also find that the changes to leader age are a problem: certain combinations of Overtuned traits which used to be viable no longer are because the average age of my leaders has increased by at least 10 years (sometimes 20).
I have to run a special project to remove traits by year 30 or my leaders start dying.

I had to delete and reinstall the game for mine to finally work. I also agree - I am not a fan of this update. The unity nerfing has ruined my whole system and is stressing me out.

LOL!

This reminds me of the DND club in high school where we all rolled our characters in front of the Dungeon master with no re-do;s at all. What a band of misfits, except the DM's best friend who had already rolled his character beforehand and no one witnessed except the DM who swore it was legit. His was a wizard with max intelligence, Psionics and a dragon as a familiar - which means he rolled 00 twice - amazing isn't it? (For those who never played to just get one is a lightning-strike miracle, but to get both, impossible. Like winning the 100 million $ lottery 2 times in a row.

I commented on this with AOW4, these guys want nothing to feel special. Just a big bucket of mediocrity at best. Weird. Games are supposed to be fun. You are supposed to get excited to get something powerful.

That always happens when they make unity related changes. Its due to a lack of time spend on balancing. Then people find some way around it, and then they nerf that with another update; repeat.

Well you play Spiritualist a lot, right? Meaning you actually know what good, mediocre and bad unity gain look like, and how it effects gameplay.

From what I remember in the 3.3 or 3.4, whichever it was updates, people mostly proclaimed how good unity builds became when in reality they became worse. If you looked closely at the replies.. the people that said unity builds became good were also the ones that previously didnt play them because they thought they were bad. Aka: they didnt have real experience with Unity builds.

I havent played the game much in recent year(s), and only barely started a game in this update. So no idea how good or bad the changes are yet.

With that said: post 3.3/3.4 if you make a unity update you want to have some unity civic. Either the one that spawns factions right away, the priest civic, or the one that removes leader upkeep. The last one is probably the best one to have with this update.

I'm getting a lot of leaders with a +5% unity bonus - I would assume that stacks? I had three scientists with it. I'm not having a problem with unity so far. Maybe it depends on your Empire type?

those traits only affect the planets they govern.
which is another point i absolute dislike about this update. i legit got 8/10 planet traits. 1 ship trait and 1 council trait on my leaders. no idea what was up with that.
