How to add icons to names

I've seen people in multiplayer games add icons to their species names or ship prefixes does anyone here have the answer to this?

if it's ascii stuff i'd try simply copy pasting it.

in some games you can also do stuff like that in big picture mode.

and if it's neither of those then editing the species save file will probably do it.

i tried it and some ascii stuff works and some doesn't. i could make a species named ¤§¾¶©²«¯

i imagine it's also possible to install additional fonts if you want something specific.

Thanks for the help but not exactly what I'm looking for, what i'm looking for is adding in specific gfx which seems to be possible. using the normal way you add gfx like £energy£ doesn't seem to work in the empire files either.
