you cant no longer destroy them. if you shoot the outpost down you take control if the system

If you own them you can disband them. That will destroy them.

Ok, thanks.

Hey, why is my war exhaustion increasing even though I am winning the war? It says I have 44% and they have 33%, but they have not been doing anything but taking back their systems. I would think that their war exhaustion would increase because I am the one doing all of the attacking. Also, it seems that my army upkeep is still 1 energy credit even though they are on my planet.

since 2.0.2 war exhaustion is generated by two things: A) lost units, even if you win a battle you get war exhaustion from loosing ships / troops and B) a ticking clock that gives both sides war exhaustion the longer the war lasts.
Offensive armies got way bigger upkeep in 2.0 so yea 1 EC is normal for Assault-Armies, different then fleets in anchorage at a starbase the upkeep for offensive armies doesnt reduce no matter if they are at home, in space or occupying an enemy planet.

Sounds correct.

They are just taking back weakened systems - small effort, why should they feel "exhausted" by doing so?

While you? You are going around attacking, losing costly ships(and, presumably, people) for limited gains (if they are taking back the systems, what are you gaining exactly?)

You want them to feel war exhaustion? Start destroying their fleets and/or planets.

Also, try to limit your own losses.

Yea I'm not understanding these posts about exhaustion. Why do people keep letting the AI take back systems and not targeting their fleets? My first instinct is to destroy any of their fleets I see.

Actually taking their planets does afaik nothing for war exhaustion anymore but you get a very sharp malus for their willingness to accept surrender (accept your wargoals) as long as you don't have all systems and colonies you have claims on under military control instead.

This change makes no sense. When in war in real life, places of production are ALWAYS the first targets.

Actaully you can still attack stations though, but occupying the outpost gives YOU the resources instead while you occupy it.
And why can't you simply destroy enemy outposts? Because they cost influence, A LOT, and you can't just fortify every outpost and they're not particularly strong by themselves. So in a few months of war you could completely obliterate YEARS of influence.
