L-Cluster
Gotta say that was quick game ending. I had a large lead on an end game victory based on my score. I was in a hurry to open the L-Cluster because I didn't want to AI to beat me to it. Game was completely over within 2 game years. No chance for a victory... That was an Ironman game that ended in disappointment.

L Gate isn't really end game though.... Did you open it and get bumrushed by the grey tempest or what?

I opened the L-gate once SUUUUPPPPEEERRR Early in a Huge Galaxy and got Grey Tempest.....it was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing.....10 years after opening they had wiped out nearly the entire galaxy.

Would be nice to have a option for L-gate outcome.
I mean sometimes you just get sick of always getting Tempest or the Dausnau....
I think ive still yet to see the Nanobot-Ldrakes a single time.

I use this in games when I don't want to be bothered by the L-gates.

Your greed was your downfall. A cautionary tale.

Yep! They made quick work of the galaxy. A real existential threat.

so I just found an L-Gate (cant open it yet). Its right next to my home system. I'm guessing I should leave it alone?

Another case of the Fallen Empires seeing other Empires meddling in things far beyond their understanding.

well, you could open it yourself if you fear the tempest, as if there are any other l gates the tempest don't spawn in the first opened gate, you could also build a bastion that specialises in killing Tempest there and wait for another empire to open it

They buffed it a little. If you can throw 3 50k fleets at it, you should be fine.

The other difference I noticed was that they are ready to swarm out so if your fleets don't enter right away to the second that you can travel through, they will already send a few fleets through the L-Gate. My fleets were at the star base and not at the gate. In the 15 days it took for them to travel to the L-Gate they had already sent at least 2 fleets out through other L-Gates.

In my current game one of other empires have opened the L-gate. Grey tempest came with one fleet only (at least I could see only one due to my spies) with some 25k power... So, big lol. I keep observing the situation from the very other end of galaxy and so far everything is quiet. Don't really understand why Tempest bothered comming with such small force. 25k and only one fleet? Meanwhile I had Great Khan suddenly showing up... he wasn't very strong as well, but at least I had to use two fleets with comined 110k power to stop him and eredicate. I don't know if Khan is supposed to be stronger than Tempest? Typically Khan is just a distrubance, nothing more... So what is wrong with Tempest? Shouldn't they be stronger?

Khan is much more of a threat in the short term, but less of a threat in the long term. Plus you can surrender against him without much consequence as long as he's left alive.

How small 25k is depends on when the gates are opened. If there's L-gates nearby you can prepare defense there just in case.

Despite the L cluster events being equally likely I almost always get grey tempest. Now whenever I have an L gate in my territory that black hole is my new home base for my navy. I don't even bother researching L gate tech anymore. Let the AI do that, smack down the tempest when they come through, claim L cluster for myself and hold the rest of the galaxy hostage.

Sounds like you're pretty new to the game? Once you get a better handle on things the L Cluster stuff is pretty easy to beat.

I think it was some 150-160 years in the game, when L-gate has opened - so I think 25k is really low. In the very same game I had problems knocking down Automated Battleship - one fleet with 55k power was not enough, so eventually I've overrun it with two fleets 120k combined ;-P. But in the same time I read that typically a fleet around 25k is enough for Automated Battleship.

I'm going to visit the L-cluster, but first I have to cut my way thru two other empires. But hey, it is for greater good ;-)
