How can I make this game run slower?
No wait, don't go, I'm being serious here.

I like to have Stellaris running while I'm doing other things, but sometimes it's just too fast even on slowest.

If I wanted to make it run faster then I'd simply change the number of ticks per turn, unfortunately it doesn't work in reverse. I could... bulk load it with the number of mods and simply force it to slow down due to lack of resources but that's inefficient (and dangerous).

If anyone knows of a work around or a mod that would slow down the game (i.e add a further option beyond slowest say: 1 day every 10 minutes?) would be much appreciated.

just pause it

You could always change the speed of the game I suppose. In the upper right corner there are options for both speeding up and slowing down how fast the game goes in realtime. Though you won't get anywhere near 1 day every ten minutes.

the "Space" bar is your friend!

It's already on slowest sadly. I'll have to take a look at the pro's and con's of underclocking I have a feeling that's just the same thing in reverse as maxing out resources.

I'd rather not pause if I can.. huh anyone want to design a mod that pauses and unpauses rapidly? Maybe that *could* work. Do it fast enough and you shouldn't even notice the jitter.

There are applications that can suspend/resume application (for example resource monitor). Maybe you can find one that accepts it as command line and run a script that will suspend and resume application.
It definitely won't work in multiplayer, and I do not know if it'll work properly in singleplayer, but at least it should.
When actually looking at game, make script resume application and stop itself (for example autohotkey script that resumes application and halts itself on key press).

EDIT: now that I think of it, cheat engine had speed hack that could also slow down games, maybe that's what you need?

At that point you can just have timed automated keypresses for the space bar. There are actually programs that will do this for you, just google auto keyboards.

Keypresses require window to be focused which might interrupt whatever OP is doing in foreground. Emulating keypresses without window focus doesn't always work, needs testing, but might be a solution.

Cheat engine? This may ring a bell from waaaaay back (I'm too old for this...). I wonder how that thing works and yes quite possible.

I haven't and probably won't (though I'm open to the idea) play multiplayer... but I often don't play these games 'properly' more of just enjoyment to 'keep the balance'. It's like a fish tank eventually.

What about changing the FPS (Sort of like limiting the FPS), while annoying if you want to manipulate something (You mouse is slower), it gives you time to notice stuff. I don't see an FPS slider for changing the max FPS, but maybe a mod could do that?

I think what you want is something to make progress slower, e.g., techs requiring more resarch points, buildings more resources, etc.

Pretty much but there doesn't appear to be such a mod.

Not quite that's easy enough to do in the game set up screen, no I actually want the days to slow down. Maybe I'm just at that point in my life where the days seem to becoming increasingly shorter and I just want to prolong them as much as possible? Hm.

In theory I could slow down the ship speed and that would solve a big part... but that starts to impinge on balance an awful lot and can make tech far more attractive than it really needs to be.

I can't help but wonder if this is some sort of troll.....

Not on this occasion. I appreciate Stellaris is known for some serious slow down during late game for unknown reasons. Some say it's CPU but I don't see this myself.

it's pop calculations. haven't seen it in a while but for a few patches i had issues. seems like the older it is or less cores your processor has the better it does
