Design your ship. Then select auto upgrade. If you aren't willing to put that much time into making sure your ship is made right then Stellaris isn't the game for you.
It just means your trying to brute force it rather than spend 30 seconds doing it yourself.
E.g Kinetic+ Energy is always solid.
Always good to have some point defense ships as well.
This doesn't matter until you start having more and more options available, since early on you're likely to only have minor weapon or armor upgrades and the auto system will easily manage just slapping them in there for you.
It doesn't work with the flee manager at all.
To limit micro, just create a new design as soon as you unlock it, deleting the auto design. Then when you want to upgrade just click auto complete and save and you're done.
auto best doesnt work well for long.
auto upgrade on the other hand is amazing.
as long as you play it smart your ships should outclass the galaxy.
If you pick the ship sections yourself, then let auto-best do the rest, the result is much better.
Personaly getting new ship types and designing fleets is one of the best parts of the game for me :3 It's also a good idea to test out fleet designs and see how they perform, I often use the leviathons for that XD
Yeah, I have never designed a non-Colossus ship, and can beat all my enemies. 300+ hours and never wasted my time on designing my ship, it’s not important if you have the right economy. Plus the AI sucks.
