No, gateway. Not portal. The buildable megastructure gateways. The AI AE's built gateways in systems then lost them to the Unbidden. While I did destroy the Unbidden's station in the system, unclaimed systems that have gateways are stupidly annoying to capture because the unclaimed gateways are open to everyone. You can't destroy the megastructures, which is what I'm asking for us to be able to do. You must capture the system with a station in order to claim the system and stop the incoming Unbidden that pour through the gateway. Every time you try to build a station to capture a system it costs influence. If an enemy fleet appears in the system you're trying to build a station in, your construction ship stops construction AND you lose the influence you spent.
I spent over one hundred years trying to capture a system that would prove to be a strong defensive system to defend the galaxy's north while I then focus on the south. Longest battle I've ever had to fight. If I could ruin the megastructure, it would have stopped the Unbidden from sending a fleet every time I was almost finished building the station.
Possibly requiring the use of a colossus.
As long as the colossus continues to fire even when under attack, this is a perfectly reasonable solution.
You lose the station's influence cost (and all progress towards the station) if an enemy arrives in the system while you are trying to construct a station, passive or not, because one of the requirements to construct a station is there cannot be enemies in the system.
The issue is the difficulty in being fast enough at grabbing the system after the Unbidden are banished from it before the Unbidden go through the open-to-everyone gateway.
Go do that and you'll realise what I'm saying in this thread.
For smaller megastructures like the Gateway (it is not mega in size but in the technological benefit) you shouldn't even need a colossus, a normal fleet with a power of something like around 100K should be able to destroy it themselves.
