Xenophobic FE gone mental

So a xenophobic FE, the Hiffnar Remnant, just declare a 'buffer zone creation war', which, as far as I can tell, made them swallow some purifiers that weren't even near them. Now they own oodles of territory which they are now purging.

They frequently declare war on tiny nations, but somehow get completely slammed and humiliated. Is this normal, or is something strange happening? Also, they haven't awoken, it's the year 2361.

eh military isolationist I assume? Yeah those can be 'fun'. they do not like people settling near their borders. They ask nicely once, then they go DEATH TO ALL XENO SCUM!

Yeah. But I've never seen them annex somebody before. Oh well, they aren't too close to me I assume.

I posted this issue in the pdx forums a few days ago, had the same type of FE take over 2 entire empires of fanatical purifiers. It's an interaction with the Total War CB.

Usually, the defending empire would just get humiliated by the FE. But since purifiers and the like do all or nothing wars now, when they inevitably lose, they just get all their territory seized by the FE.

It doesn't need to be near them, mine conquered one on the other side of the galaxy. Purifiers have the total war cb on EVERYONE, not just neighbours
