Which planets are good to chose for an Ecumenopolis?
I always just assumed you go for the biggest planets to get max districts so you could have fewer Ecu's and more feeder planets. Then I saw some post where a guy was saying his smaller planets 15-17 or so would turn those into Ecumenopolises.

How/Why do you chose the planets you do to become an Ecumenopolis?

PS: Resources not an issue.

Planets that does not produces lots of minerals or have special advantages towards, for example, science.

Do the number of districts matter?

Most of an Ecus jobs come from the districts.

OK so how do you pick your Ecu planets?

Big Planet with few recources - and/or capital planet, but that is just a matter of taste

I'd say, anything that doesn't have any special planetary features that will be removed by the terraforming and doesn't have a good number of mineral districts possible, because any ecu will need a lot of mineral input unless you plan on making it an energy world by just building city districts.

I was just looking at my Capital panet since I got that +30% research bonus on it now from that Mirror's Edge/Sphere quest. The only problem is I'm a Corporation and the Trade value on the planet alone is 700, but I'm currently making over 2k energy per month so the boosted research might be a good tradeoff.

It will take a lot of time before the size of a Ecumenopolises matters, they are there to produce as much alloys and consumer goods as your mineral production allows. Do not over-think the decision of planet, spend that time worrying about the flow of minerals and food to the Ecumenopolis instead.

I have +787 minerals per month and +462 food. I can increase food a ton if needed by swapping commercial for hydroponics. I am just trying to learn as much as I can from the experts before deciding which planet.

1) First one IMHO should be ~12 sized with no special features.

2) Later you want a planet without special features (that boosting +energy/minerals/food, as High gravity actually nice for ecumenopolis) & many disticts (mostly mineral one, but food/energy matter too if you don't have ringworld nearby).

3) Any planet with research-boosting planetary feature (as it would stay and stack with ecumenopolis bonus).

p.s. NEVER try to converse planet with subterrarian civs (everyone killing them, right?).

RE 2 - I always thought natural features were removed when you built Ecumenopolis as I see everyone constantly warning not to do that.

Good to know though that research remains, my +30% bonus from Mirrors Edge quest(giant sphere at black hole) will be perfect.

Planetary FEATURES will be removed. Planetary MODIFIERS (like unstable tectonics) will stay.

I haven't managed to find a list, problem is some are and some aren't so it's hard to say unless someone finds one and terraforms it just to find out.

Any planet with poor resources, the smaller the better. They are not good for anything, might as well make them into something usefull. And because they are small- it will be easier to convert them into ecumenopolis.

The best Ecumenopolis planets have two major factors:

A) Larger sized planets. Because they can build more districts, you get much more bang for your buck if you make one of these into an Ecumenopolis.

B) Planets with few districts by default. Planets that just don't have that much value because there are so few districts to work with.

Its kind of rare to find both, but either one is a good candidate.
