Totally agree. But not only ships, what about structures ttoo, and some techs?. It would be nice to to play as flood, zerg, alien (avp), insectoid (starship troopers), tyranids, and others; how could be that with many possibilities as they set, they didnt think of this (or at least did not make it happen). In any case, totally agree, need organics llifeforms capable of evolving.
Have fun
To be fair why would you even want to? A ship that poops and has no lasers? where is the fun in that?
Lasers can just be written off as militarized bioluminescence. Also in-game biological engineering gives you the ability to create the smartest species with erudite with 20% research output while others even machines only have 10% with logic engines or intelligent. Biological engineered ships with that tech could make them significantly stronger with better ship computers.
