it's all the same other than machine start
I would give both a try OP. See if you like them or not. For Mind over Matter its worth to note it that you can still use robots if you pick that perk. Whereas you get no psi stuff when you pick Flesh is Weak.
I hope you like lag
PS: You can try to find the nearest empire with cybernetics and send several people to visit them.
Genetic Route: Special Slave Bonuses (including livestock +2 food base):
= Ideal for Xenophobes who micro manage.
Synthetic Route: Best Energy (50% more from base), Highest Growth (but alloy used up), best for materialists, and anyone who is all about their planets and making them higher populations.
= More preferred for non-militarists.
Psionics Path: Best leader bonuses, lots of non-investing bonuses (don't have to wait months for things to take effect).
= Best if doing an empire with many subordinates, or doing a lot of warfare.
>Psionics best for warfare
Yeah, it actually is. The evasion bonus you get along with other stacking bonuses is insane for fleets. There's also the psionic version of the combat computer which gives you insane buffs as well.
