Should I surrender to the Khan if resistance is near impossible?
In my current game the Great Khan just came to power. He borders me on my western border and I'd imagine he'll be invading very soon.

My military power is no where near his. I'm in a federation and I know that surrendering (becoming a satrapy of the Khan) will take me out of the federation. but considering that I border the Khan and that he's got much more military power, would it be wise to surrender right away instead of resisting only to surrender eventually anyway. When the Khan dies, is there a good chance I could get my federation back again? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you should surrender, and yes, you should be able to get your freedom back

I just surrendered to him in one of the games I'm playing. I had a 30k star base at a choke point with another 26k of fleet power to back it up. He came in with 120k of fleet power lol I hit the surrender button before the first shot was fired. Then counted up his total fleet power which was around 200k including the fleets that didn't show up. So after losing 25% of energy and minerals I was planning out how to up my fleet enough to take him on. A few years later I got my economy fixed enough to start increasing my fleet when he died of natural causes and the new khan leader pulled out of my territory and released me from being a tributary. So now we have equivalent fleet power and I'm making plans to return the favor and make them a tributary or vassal.

? It's a guaranteed spawn if you have marauder empires enabled.

"Do I surrender and suffer under an obnoxiously large military force that may or may not periodically exterminate swaths of territory as it is held unaccountable international or intergalatic law until a new obnoxious military force comes along or I finally gain independence?"

yes, welcome to being eastern Europe.

No guarantee for the khan to spawn, just very likely.

2 other times I'm remembering the Khan showing up. On one he somehow made a fallen empire mad at him and they defeated him twice in like 8 years. Another time I used the Galactic Council along with a bunch of favors I'd saved up to have the rest of the galaxy decide he was a priority problem. They were able to stall him out long enough that his fleets split up to cover his territory and we could finally mop him up.

Surrendering to the Khan is not a bad option when needed and shouldn't be the end of the game. You just need to work on economy and wait it out.

I once had the Khan be defeated by the 2nd marauder empire! XD

Just had the Khan in my game. Yes surrender, he'll take resources but leave your systems intact. Fight and he'll wipe your systems clean and possible claim some as his own. Time is on your side to build.

In my previous game I've had the Grey Tempest happen, War in Heaven, and Crisis. Through all of that the Marauder faction was just chilling doing nothing.
