How do you play as pacifist?
Never really tried much, when I did I didn't do anything, what's the point of a pacifist empire?

When I'm not pacifist, I still rarely wage wars of aggression.

my main problem with playing Pacifist is the fact that the AI seems biased against your ethics and ALWAYS places xenophobe\militarist nations all around you.

I tried Pacifist playthroughs 3 times and all times first two - three civilizations I contacted were either xenophobe or militarist (or both).

So you can't really leverage your ethics and roleplay properly.

been a while since i played mine but what i would do was try to rush chokepoints with a decent amount of space locked behind it. then build up and eventually take stuff when someone declared war on me or i guess in this case it was on my ally. if you want to expand you have to be strong enough to fight back and win but weak enough that the ai will go "yeah, i can take them" or they'll never attack you.

with federations out now you can just build up a strong empire and focus on building a federation and passing laws in the galactic community to mess with other nations.

Re: Captain - One thing that I haven't verified myself but I've heard is that the game preferentially generates xenophobes and militarists for all games, rather than being specific to your ethics, as a deliberate choice because games with a lot of 'friendly' AI personalities can end up very static / 'hugbox' because there won't be enough people who want to cause trouble, especially if the player isn't overtly aggressive.

I would recommend against fanatic pacifists. Instead play normal pacifists so you can wage wars of liberation. Then with the new nation created either form federation partners or create a vassal. You can even integrate the vassal later to expand in a large way.

Isn't the point of being pacifict winning victory games? Like waiting it out, turtling and stuff.

Pacifists can also capture planets of Gestalt Consciousness now, so it's not as restricting as it once was.

If you want to play "pacifist" - sit in your little corner and dont attack anyone- its best to combine it with xenophobe for Inwards Perfection and also take Voidborne origin. With Voidborne you dont really need planets.

i have 30ish custom empires that i lock on(gotta disable the hive with doomed homeworld) and use 19 of besides the one i play. this gives me a good variety of empires plus i've designed them to all be good at something so they aren't some random hodgepodge of confusion.

This is exactly how I play, best way to play imo.
You can still fight in defensive wars.

My first game with the dlc was with a determined exterminator race lol

just wanted to see if they were bad or not after the patch (they weren't)
