#5 really got me on my first playthru... i had plenty of exotic gases stocked up, so i upgraded all my research facilities, which led to the stockpile draining (which i wasn't watching), once it ran out everything went down the drains until i found a couple more sources.
* no upkeep = buildings shut down = unemployment and possibly lack of resources from those buildings.. one big mess.
also if you do a species upgrade (gene splicing or robomodding) it makes them unemployed for a month or two while the jobs are reassigned (or at least it did for me) which temporarily screws up your numbers.
Huh, didn't notice that temporary unemployment with gene modding, and I do quite a lot... I'll pay extra attention next time I do
