THE STABILITY ON ALL MY PLANETS SUDDENLY DROPPED
I was playing for like 8 hours into the game when suddenly the stability on my planets suddenly dropped. I tried changing policies for my factions to be happy but nothing. All my energy, minerals, food, consumer goods is in the negative and it is pretty bad. Maybe i over extended with my empire. What could be the cause? Some help please!

Suddenly usually happens when you run out of basic resources (food/consumer goods), everything else (like event chains) tends to be major enough to notice.

My stability droped in 2 phases when i had plenty of resources. Maybe it is some kind of bug?!

Maybe. Either way, even if you were to provide some relevent info (like empire type and detailed happiness/stability rundown), it's all just guess work based on tooltips - something you're, likely, capable of analizing on your own.

Change in empire leadership? An edict/event modifier ran out?

No. The stability on my planets were like somewhere at 60% and 50% and they dropped at 35% or even lower. It is like my stability dropped 25 to 30% empire wide.

You can check why they are unhappy.
1. Are your factions happy?
2. Do you have many slaves?
3. High crime? Unemployment? Homelessness?
4. Are you purging?
5. Lack of resources? Including strategic resources! Strategic resources can say +5, but it could mean +10 motes and -5 crystals, so make sure of that.
6. What is your living standards?

#5 really got me on my first playthru... i had plenty of exotic gases stocked up, so i upgraded all my research facilities, which led to the stockpile draining (which i wasn't watching), once it ran out everything went down the drains until i found a couple more sources.
* no upkeep = buildings shut down = unemployment and possibly lack of resources from those buildings.. one big mess.

also if you do a species upgrade (gene splicing or robomodding) it makes them unemployed for a month or two while the jobs are reassigned (or at least it did for me) which temporarily screws up your numbers.

Huh, didn't notice that temporary unemployment with gene modding, and I do quite a lot... I'll pay extra attention next time I do

I gen mod my whole species at the same time and no one has ever stopped working for me or at least I have never noticed a drop, I even just got out of a genetics civil war well idk if its over yet but it was fun and it boosted my people with two extra traits so far
