Claiming systems for vassals?
Is there any way i can claim systems for my vassals? I want to war with another empire on the other side of my vassal but the influence cost is huge because it's not near me its near my vassal?

What happens if i release them? They can then claim stuff for their own, right? Will i get an opinion change?

I know there's a civic that says that vassals are allowed to colonize planets, it's called Feudal System or Feudal Society. You can also claim systems and just give to your vassals.

vassals only good for future integration, don't spend your efforts on them
if you want ally - make federation

You can't claim a system for your vassal, only for yourself. But you CAN claim a system for yourself, do whatever you want to it after you win it in battle and then gift it to your vassal.

I often do that to keep the tech penalty down or to systems I don't want to own because there's just nothing in it / it's in a bad position and I don't have gateways yet.

Theres no system at current for this but there might be in the economics update coming up next that they haven't revealed yet, i do what Nix said and gift it to my vassals.

You could just claim one system, get it and make peace.
Then 10 years later you can start claiming from there.

Or just build a colossus and start a total war XD

Vassals have many more uses than just integration, just look at the Domination tradition tree. Extra Unity output and more naval cap without raising the tech/trad cost can be valuable.

Depends if you're playing tall.
But yeah, with the new war mechanic you can't choose who will take the system. (Can't force the ai to claim) best give system from trade for now.

1) Integrate the vassal.
2) Claim the systems you want to take.
3) Release some or all of the previous vassal's systems as a new vassal.
4) Go to war and take the systems you claimed.
5) Give any of those systems you don't want to the vassal, but keep at least one bordering that enemy so that the next time you want to claim their systems you won't have to repeat this process.

if you go feudal you should seek to vassalize enemy empires not feed them land to your existing vassals. Personally I took the habit of claiming and stealing specific systems for rare resources / strategic assets, especially later in the game when you're plenty of influence.

If you truly want to feed your vassals you need Apocalypse and its colossus CB since it allows you cheat the game by bypassing the claim mechanic with a total war so that you can conquer to your heart's content (most preposterous feature for a DLC ever).

You could trade systems in the trade menu. Also, you could integrate your vassals couldn't you?
