It will give you very strong attraction to spiritualist faction. Almost forcing you sooner or later to give up and roll into it (or eat constant happiness penalty).

The machine crisis has an event where a psionic civilization notices the machine infiltrators because they have no mind glow, so there is something distinguishing AIs from Biologicals.

Nah. Just sometimes its more fun to just get the tech after meeting the prereqs. as a materialist rather than waiting for the 0.02%(likely not real number but I have been going for 70 years and it hasn't shown) of psionic rnging even with a psionics scientist.

As for your issue, getting Psionic Theory is easy these days, unlike 6 years ago. Every Ascension Perk gives you an Agenda that grants 25% research in its next relevant tech, meaning Ascension-related techs are completely deterministic now (unlike 6 years ago).
