Tributary war goal
Decleared war on an empire to make them my tributary. After invading every planet and capturing all their systems the war ends with status quo. Great job ruining a great game, im ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ done.

There is actually something to be said for paying attention to the game giving you a red warning flag. Like the one that tells you that you reached 100% war-exhaustion and the war will forcibly end in 2 years.

You could of cause have bothered to look at the tool-tip you get when hoovering over the button to demand their surrender and see what you actually miss to get them to surrender, but I guess just waiting until you loose and then going into a forum, raging and insulting people is less demanding.

-75 from demanding tributary.
-100 from demaning surrender.

Keep defending the devs of this game. It's hilarious

They ruined this game because they keep changing core mechanics every update.
If you can't cope with changes to the game without resorting to profanity then this is not the game for you. Please just move on instead of polluting the forum.

If instead you are just being excessively emotional to cope with the frustration of the situation, then take a moment to calm down. The situation you are experiencing is a known problem, and the next patch (2.1.1) is going to introduce a solution which will make it so that when a war ends in that situation a positive outcome will occur, instead of getting nothing for your efforts. In the situation you described that empire would have become your tributary after the war ended. Also, it would have been possible to offer to end the war sooner, without having to wait for the WE to reach 100%, and still achieve your goal of forcing that empire to pay tribute.

So, how much were you below the needed 175?
You should have 100 from occupation and get the remaining 75 from their war exhaustion.

So what were you missing? Was their war exhaustion at only 68 or was occupation below 100 because you didn't occupy everything/they had allies?

In the beta patch you can subjugate from status quo. The devs are listening, don’t be so quick to write them off as mean.

Did the target have an ally?

I can understand the anger of the OP, but I do not understand the players defending lazy developers. Serious, after 2 years, the game is still full of mistakes that are as old as the game itself. And these have been reported quite a few times and called in the forum. But have the developers ever listened, of course not!

Therefore, the OP, has paid for this game and also have the right to comment freely!

They are fixing this exact problem in the beta 2.1.1. So he has no reason to complain.

Do they have allies in the war? If they have allies youll have to conquor some of their ally as well

This makes sense; Germany didn’t win WWII by defeating just France. They would have had to conquer Britain as well, but they didn’t and lost the war.

Yeah the game was twisted into idiocy, but hey, here is how it works now:

1) Everyone uses influence to claim systems, empty ones or the ones occupied by some xeno scum
2) If you want to wage war as before (e.g., build up your navy, roll in and take all ther stuff) you got to CLAIM their systems first with influence (available in comms screen)
3) It costs arm and leg, and is ridiculously overpriced now, because devs, in all their wisdom, are tryharding to stop you from doing p (2)
4) You can research additional techs to reduce CLAIM costs, as well as pick specific ethics to do so (fanatic Xenophobes, for instance have -40% claim influence cost)
5) So, after you have claimed systems, you now have a CLAIM casus belli against this empire, so you can roll in and take these systems and hold them
6) When war timer reaches out, the war outcome is decided by what systems you are holding, and you are taking those

All in all, it is still possible to eat entire empires in one go, you just need to have your claim costs minimized and generate influence like crazy.

It is lame system, but this is how it works now.
