Its such in a bad state it can barely accomplish the basic tasks.
So there is nothing I could actually call diplomacy atm, just linear, predictable reactions.
But you can expect the next DLC to be diplomacy oriented, they stated they want to make it.
That can really ear-mark a lot of slots for the AI with empires that are almost guaranteed to ally up.
Other than that you can make a couple of well-optimized (try good general things such as resource buffs) loner empires and enable force spawning them so you have like 5 empires that are always going to be purifiers, inwards perfection, swarms or assimilators for example.
They actually might do trade next, but yeah it’s either trade or diplomacy. Personally I want diplomacy/deeper federations to be next, and then trade.
But yeah, hopefully diplomacy and deeper federations are the focus of the next dlc... it is the game's weakest element by far right now, as federations offer little in the way of interesting gameplay.
