Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

I let it continue to run in a few saves that have gotten past year 2400, as of this moment it has failed to produce any further events by letting it continue to run on its own. The event reminded me a bit of the Infinity Machine, but its own event did not seem to differ at all when I ran across it.

Until somebody datamines what the deal with it is, safe bet for the moment is just to use it.

Leaving it is supposed to lead to an L-Gate insight.

L-Gates are Distant Stars only, right?

Didn't it have a chance to give you +10% evasion or is that another event?

I don't have distant stars.
And tend to leave it to do it's calculations, never learned what happens after.

I tend to lose interest in my playthroughs as the mid game rolls to an end... XD

Second option to have 10% research boost for engineering is crap too, because it's 10% of the base 5.0 ,not the produced total ,so it's a mere 0.5 a month, so 60 points total:making the whole event pretty worthless.

Checked it in the game files, 3rd option does nothing: https://i.imgur.com/YZAo2VJ.png

Don't mean to necro, but this is not actually true. The tooltip on your research showing the +10% bonus to engineering only shows the boost to your 5 ENG base, yes. However, if you actually check on your planets, it shows +10% to all your tile engineering as well. I got the event fairly early when I only had 24 ENG research points, and it boosted me to 27. It will give you +10% to all output, but the tooltip is a bit misleading.
