Can Succession Wars still occur? Is it limited to a certain form of Imperial government?
i.e. if your ruler dies, and you have no heir, what exactly happens? I've tried to do this via the console by killing my ruler, but nothing happened. I was using a Divine Empire government, so I went back and made my government a Star Empire and tried it once more then. Again, nothing happened. Is this no longer a feature in the game? I know the chance of this occuring naturally in a regular game is virtually impossible, but is it still possible to occur?

I am equally interested in knowing the answer to this particular question.

Oh wow, I thought this thread would never have any activity once nobody responded to it. The reason why I asked this was simply because I was curious. Yes, I know the chances of both the heir and ruler being dead at the same time are virtually impossible, but I just want to know what actually happens. Does a succession war take place (similar to EU4), does a new leader simply spawn and the game pretends nothing bad happens? This was what I wanted to know.

oh you were asking if the game has any mechanic like that. the way you worded it made it sound like a previous mechanic that got removed

ive never heard of anything like this happening so its probable that there isnt anything like it. as for what exactly does happen, I dont really play imperial authority much so I have no idea

Also, can I just say something I think is a bit BS now with 2.0? The influence gain for Authoritarians seems to be very low, and with no real way of boosting it by much. Democratic governments get the Mandates which give influence, and if you ask me, it makes it much easier to play Democratic and expand because you would overall have more influence to work with.

it was changed so that mandates gave unity rather than influence in 2.0 specifically because the uses of influence changed so much

It has never happened to me, but im sure nothing happens

For the moment, all leaders / rulers are just a name with buff

They die, you just hire another guy
They lose an election after 100+ years of ruling, go back to normal work np
A democracy can elect the same guy again and again for decades
...
Very barebone

But there is a lot of possibilities for future DLCs with more interesting internal politics and conflicts, factions, sectors, all leaders in general and even pops

I think that the next DLC should be involving more varied internal politics, events for those, abilities to weaken or dismantle alliances (and most importantly, federations), and espionage. These were all features that people really want, and that is currently a poor system in the game.
Ficelle Mar 27, 2018 @ 3:05pm
Yep, i want more of that
More diplo, both external and internal

I like Stellaris for some reasons i cant really explain, but for the moment, it is a very simplistic game (compared to EU4...)
It has improved, so, this is a good sign

A lot of rooms to expand and...a shower of DLCs to come...ahah

I hope there are plenty of more DLC. Espionage, better trade, expanded Federations, and more diplomatic options are all on my wishlist.
