Pick the option to help the machine finish its calculations. There are three possible outcomes, each which will reset if you reload a game before that project finishes.

1. You do not finish the equation, and the machine offers you two rare techs, or a 5% research boost.

2. You finish the equation, the machine flies into the black hole, and nothing happens. You get a 5% research boost and get bonus research if you set up a station in that system.

3. You finish the equation, the machine flies into the black hole, and the black hole turns into pantagruel. Setting up a research station gets you a big bonus research in all three fields. Regardless, you get a 10% overall research speed increase.

The wiki says that whether or not gargantua turns into pantagruel is determined at the start of the game, but it is wrong. I have save-scummed, and the result will indeed change.
