I would consider this to still be an early access game in its current state.

It seems very promising but a few things are missing that would make it a fully polished game such as:

Improved map, currently there are no location names or any information other than the player’s location.

No signs for when shops are open, you have to just figure it out on your own.

Very little information on how to progress. The museum does not have a list of what you need (you have to guess what items are required)

A few bugs here and there, but not horrible.

NPC’s need more dialogue. They only have one dialogue after meeting them.

This game is what I’ve been waiting YEARS for! Finally, a farming simulator set in the Wild West!! I’ve been playing farming sims for nearly 20 years and I can say with confidence that this is already one of my favorites :)

I wanted to wait until I had a substantial amount of playtime before I left a review so I can definitely say that Cattle Country is extremely fun and has TONS of playtime! A feature I love is that it can be as challenging or as laid-back if you want — they have a setting to toggle whether enemies appear in the over world and in the mines.

I will say, this game does drop you in the deep end, but developers made a guide to help you figure things out (this can be found in the Community hub of the game’s store page). I’ve been using this a lot LOL ! Granted, it would be nice for new players not to NEED this, but as-is the game isn’t terrible by any means.

Here are some things that I think could improve gameplay and hope to see in the future:
• Have the crafting table use items from adjacent chests
• More cutscenes and dialogue (but especially dialogue please)
• A setting to slow time down (such as in Fields of Mistria)
• More emphasis on horses (maybe more interactions and color/pattern selection)
• A setting to toggle tree growth speed (I can’t keep up with all these trees!)
!! A more interactive map that shows you where people are and which houses are whose

Again, this game is amazing and I cannot wait to see where it goes in the future :)

Okay, so, I was loving this game for the first hour or two, until I started realising how buggy/early access this game is. I can't recommend it in it's current state.

• No key rebinding. This game has some very strange controls, and there's no ability to rebind them. Actually, there's no ability to even SEE the controls. You just have to figure them out.
  
• Splitting a stack doesn't exist. Or at least I can't figure out how it works. Meaning it takes a LONG time to grab 500 pieces of wood from a large stack to be able to take them somewhere for crafting/building.
  
• Can't sit on stuff. This game has a TON of furniture to craft, and benches/seats all over the map, but I pressed every button and can't seem to sit. Then again, maybe it's some special combination, but we will never know without a control menu.
  
• M opens the map, but M doesn't close the map. Why? When you plug in a controller, select opens and closes the map. So it's supposed to close the map, it just doesn't.
  
• When you get the dog/cat, the game controls just screw up, and you need to REINSTALL the game to fix them. After I got the dog, I could use ESC to open the menu, but pressing ESC wouldn't close the menu anymore. And TAB would open the menu, but pressing TAB would not close the menu anymore, but instead start cycling through the tabs? Closing the game isn't enough, you literally have to reinstall it to fix it. Then the next day you get the cat and it breaks in the same way again..

And lastly, the developer doesn't really seem to be that open to help? I obviously have had a lot of trouble with this game, so I checked the Steam Discussions, and found posts where people have the same questions/issues, and every time the developer has responded, they've completely ignored the question.

For example, someone asked what the controls were for the game, as they were having issues (like me) and instead of answering, the dev said they were THINKING about adding a controls menu. Ok. Cool. That paying customer still doesn't know how to play. Your thoughts and ideas aren't helpful.

Or another post where someone asked when the game would be getting it's first bug patch, someone else replied said Playtonic laid off employees so maybe never, and the developer said they aren't employed by Playtonic, so they weren't laid off. Again, cool, but why didn't you answer the main question? You clicked on the thread for a reason. Why are you leaving us all hanging?

The dev also created a bunch of Steam Guides for NPC schedules/hours/etc. Why not make one for controls? Or better yet, why not add all of those guides IN THE GAME? Maybe under the pause menu, or something.

This game has potential. It just shouldn't be released in it's current state.
