Tale Worth Telling ability?
Hey players, has anyone figured out how to properly use the Poet's Tale Worth Telling ability yet? It's needed for Alette's training fifth training session but I can't seem to make it happen and the description is pretty confusing.

Repeated here for convenience:

Tale Worth Telling: Every 2 STR enemy has over ally gives +1 STR damage."

It seems to be a buff for a friendly character but doesn't trigger on use and doesn't trigger when my "buffed" ally's turn takes place.

Any thoughts?

To beat 5th training you need to buff an ally, then the ally should strike an enemy. This ally should have current STR less then 10 then enemy (and that 10 STR difference will give you +5 dmg buff). For example Alette with 6 STR and buff should attack the enemy with 16+ STR.

To clarify on the ability: First, you buff an ally for one turn. Then, when this ally attacks an enemy with a Strength superior to theirs, they gain 1 damage for every 2 points of difference.

Say you buff an archer with 8 strength. On this archer's turn, if you attack a strength 10 enemy you will gain +1 damage, or +3 damage on a strength 14 enemy. If you aim for a foe with 9 or less strength, you don't gain any benefit.

It's worked for me, make sure to use it before your bards turn comes back around, and in order to clear the challenge you should have 10 or more points of current str difference between you and your target (with you being weaker), hard to accomplish until you have wounded characters.

In order to use it you have to do a normal red (str) attack you should see the damage at an elevated level when attacking with the character to which the buff has been applied. Easiest to put on an archer after they have taken a hit, but if they die then the buff is wasted, and it only lasts until the bards turn comes back around.

Oh, jeez. I'd read that buff entirely backwards.

That.

It helps to get to pillage mode asap while leaving an 11-15 Str Varl alive. Then let that Varl beat on someone until they have 1-5 Hp. You can use your mender to restore armor to make sure the character being attacked isn't one-shotted. Once your character has 10 less strength than the enemy Varl you can buff them with 'A Tale Worth Telling' and you'll do an additional +5 damage.

I think thgat ATWT also has a "never-miss" buff to it.

The idea is to use it on a maimed ally, who is otherwise incapacitated, for one (last) heroic attack to "clip" an enemy bruiser's STR.

Personnally, I just advanced Aleo's turn with Iver so that he would play before Eyvind, buffed Eyvind (8 Strength) and attacked a Strength 18 Warhawk = objective done on first turn with no damage thanks to positioning everyone in the back row.

Oh I see! That'd be pretty easy. It sounds like training can be vastly different for each person then. When I did this fight it put me up against two of my shield Varls with 15 Str so I had to let someone get injured first.

I simply can't make this work. I have played this trainer at least 20 times now using an injured archer to attack everyone while buffed . At this point I have to accept this broken and poorly thought out trainer and continue with the game.

While im at it I also can't do the trainer killing bolverk because he's too strong. He's lvl 8 my other guys are 3-5. AgIn poor design poor thought process by devs

Be careful: This buff only works for regular STR-attacks (not "active abilities" that do STR damage, e.g. Warhawk's Tempest etc.).

Well the idea is nice, but this situation nearly never happens in a fight. The ally must already been nearly down, before it makes sense to buff him with Aleo's Tale Worth Telling. But this takes often long time until it's Aleo's turn, then it needs again long time until it's the ally's turn again. In nearly all fights the ally is already down before he can make this "(last) heroic attack".

I one-shotted Ruin using this ability. Gave it to a str 1 Canary against a str 23 Ruin. Buffed with some Willpower points and Canary critted on the shot. Boom, Ruin dead in one shot. Felt great.
