Party Composition
Hello warriors,

I've started this game recently and want to know what would be an ideal party composition?
I found somewhere that 2 varls, 2 ranged and 2 melee is the way to go.

Plus, is Aleo good enough to replace a human frontliner? The idea of a bard singing and buffing their fellow kinship is a nice appeal and keeps the gameplay really interesting, however, as the game progress and the party characters becomes stronger, shouldn't his buff lost some value since the STR difference between my characters and the enemies may be lower? Or the late game enemies have much more highter values than the initial chapters?

Hey there.

Yes, 2 varl, 2 ranged and 2 melee human sounds like a good all-around mix. But, you will find that certain parties are obviously OP in specific boards. For example 6 varl parties in open boards (with no obstacles) can easily wipe the field in a couple of rounds. Menders are extremely useful too.

Aleo is an interesting hero to have around, but definitely not a must have. There's far better heroes to bring: damagers, tanks, support. The other Skald hero, Sparr, has a more tasty ability that can be handy in various situations; plus, the caravan Sparr is in has fewer heroes, so you kinda have to bring him to more than a couple of battles.

Thanks for the reply Aleo! I will make sure to reserve a spot for you in my team.

You'll be introduced to more high-health enemy types as the game progresses, and your heroes might lose strength as they fight.

Anyways, try not to be too reliant on a single "ideal" party composition. If you have a rough idea as to what enemies are going to spawn, modify your line-up so that you can get the most out of your heroe's perks and abilities. As Aleo has said, varl are in general very powerful, but can't move very far, so its best not to get them stuck in obstacles or pit them against Horesborn. Some Spearman have a bleed ability which are good against dredge slingers and horseborn.

The point is, don't be hesitant to ditch your usual few heroes to try some new composition strategy.

Thanks Nafeij!
I just finished the game and used Aleo almost in every fight. You can't call epic a battle without a bard.
