Well the major difference is that dune 2 was a ♥♥♥♥ game
Dune 2 was ******? Dune 2 was the greatest RTS ever imo.

I think he meant it was a lovely game. Look at those hearts!
Not every story in a desert is Dune.

But it's the most well known, prominent setting in the entire franchise. And the first Dune games were all set on Arrakis.

Counter to that though Homeworld did introduce Kharak and the backstory back in the 90s, long before they could ever have known they'd one day be doing a prequel on it.

So if anything I'd just say its similar to Dune, not a rip off of it. At least I hope not, I could do without having to place foundations and only controlling single units in this day and age.
The story is different, the setting is different, the gameplay is different. Only thing Dune has in common with DoK is the desert.
Saying that Homeworld is a rip-off of Dune is like saying that dessert (word) is a rip off of desert (another word). lol
Get over yourselves.

Pretty much the majority of the public that has heard of Dune will have the image of a space opera set amongst the rollings dunes of Arakkis, punctuated by glowing blue-eyed sand worm lovers who are all after space cinamon.
If this were a Dune game, i would have already bought it... Fighting the urge to buy this as it is. I know if I did, it would be a year before I ever played it anyway.
