Worth Getting?
I wanted to get into the homeworld series and this looked like a good one to get started on. Although, I have never played an rts before

DoK has really good campaign story, but the multiplayer have limited player base and is fairly stressful to play competitively. So it's up to you - if you are a Sci-Fi fan and want an RTS game that gives you maximum immersion, this is one of your best choice. But for other play style, perhaps not so much.

I couldn't say if you should get the game or not, but if you do decide to get it, you might want to consider getting it on GOG.

The Steam version uses a particularly aggressive version of EOS (Epic Online Services) which basically acts as always-online DRM. You can't play the game offline, even if you just want to play singleplayer (that wasn't an issue until EOS was added).

There's apparently a way to roll back to the pre-EOS version, but that's extra hoops to jump through. You'll have to decide if that's something you care about.

As far as I know, the GOG version still has the old version, but it's theoretically possible they'll get the "upgrade" at some point.

GOG is pro-Epic (they signed a 15 year deal with them to use Unreal Engine), but in this case, since EOS is acting as DRM, that makes it less likely, I guess (though they do have other games with EOS, like Saints Row IV, but I guess that version of EOS doesn't require you to be always-online).

Only really care about the campaign so I think I’ll get it. Thanks for the answer

I’ll probably down patch it if the DRM gets annoying, as I’d rather have everything on steam. Does the DRM cause performance issues?

Not sure, as I haven't played since it got added.

I think it doesn't... when it's working? Though I heard people had all sorts of issues when it was added. This was a while ago, though.

I'm against it out of principle, so I haven't bothered to look into the details of the performance situation, as that's irrelevant to me, sorry.

It is a nice Homeworld and strategy game.
The campaign has a great story and you can play the whole multiplayer part with bots, so you can get all achievements, if you desire, by singleplayer as well.

I had no performance issues, only when I want to exit the game by the in game button it freezes, so I Alt+Tab to Steam and close it in the Steam Client, that works fine.

It's a successful remake of a genuine homeworld story, it feels more like HW 1, but with menus like HW 2. Plus they added passive and clicked abilities to vehicles which is neat.
