Step by step for getting 21:9 to work

For some reason you cannot pick up 21:9 resolution from the menu, but fear not as the game works great in that apect ration, and all you have to do is modify one file. Here is a step-by-step how to get it to work.
1. Open steam, navigate to library and find Homeworld.
2. Right click->properties, and then "local files" click on "browse local files"
3. Open the file settings.json in your favourite text editor
4. Search for the following segment:

"ScreenSettings" : { "type" : "BBI.Unity.Game.ScreenSettings", "Fullscreen" : true, "ScreenResolution" : { "type" : "UnityEngine.Resolution", "width" : 3440, "height" : 1440, "refreshRate" : 0 }, "VSYNCOn" : true, "mFullscreen" : true, "m_ScreenResolution" : { "_type" : "UnityEngine.Resolution", "width" : 3440, "height" : 1440, "refreshRate" : 0 },

5. Change resolution in both places to whatever your screen uses as default. For me its 3440x1440.
6. Save the file, close the editor.
7. Rightclick on the file, press properties
8. Tick "Read-only" in attributes", press apply and then ok.
9. Launch the game and enjoy!

Just a sidenote: For some, the change won't take affect until after you open, and then cancel, the video options screen.

Yeah works for me on 2560x1080 had to enter options and press cancel after making thoses tweaks on the file :)

hey i know this is a old post but i tried doing this and it didnt work and i cant even launch the game i tried restarting my computer and reinstallng the game and it still wont play. this was my first time with code and i did everything in the guide and it still didnt work any way so if anyone can help please help me????

So just to clarify - you set the file to read only, reinstalled the game, but it's still not even launching?

Sorry for the late reply, but i'd like to ask you a few question:

Do you understand why you have to set the file in question to read-only?
By extension, do you know what setting a file to read-only actually does and entails?

Do exactly what Puciek says. You must select the "only read" box or else the resolution will change back to the native resolution in the settings (JSON) file. At first, it did not work, but when I pressed F10 and selected "options" and subsequently "cancel" the screen changed to a borderless full screen, it also changed the graphics. Although the resolution was set to 1920x1080 in the game, clueless why. It is stunningly beautiful and the graphics are equally beautiful. I love it. At first, I was so disappointed and depressed, not only by the screen but also by the graphics. I have a iiyama 34-inch monitor with HDR support. It just looks amazing. I also play the game in the highest settings on a Nvidia RTX 2060 Super. I want to thank everybody who came with this solution. I can't stop playing.

Thank you so much for the guide! This made this beautiful game even more beautiful... er. It just saddens me a bit that a native ultrawide support would be so easy for the devs to implement. I know, first world problems and all :D
