Thanks for letting us know. Before you jump onto your refund, let's see if we can resolve your problem or at least figure out what's wrong. Could you send us the game log file Deserts of Kharak/Data/output_log.txt? Also your DxDiag information would be useful so we can see your computer configuration.

You can submit support request to the Gearbox online support system[gearboxsoftware.zendesk.com] and attach the output log and the computer specs to the request.

Let me know if you need help finding the information.

I get this as well...

Sorry to hear. If you can submit the same info to the support system that would be helpful, thanks!

support is useless
UncleFu Jan 20, 2016 @ 11:48am
There is no output_log.txt file in the said location. Maybe because the game has never actually launched?

Edit: For info I have done everything Steam support suggests: Validate Integrity of files, run as admin, delete appcache folder and restart.

@UncleFu22, so you found the Data folder, but no output file in there? If there's no output_log.txt at all then things are failing super early. You should still submit a support request with the DxDiag info.

@Duke, we'll need whatever info you can provide before we can help. Please give support a chance.

Will do ;-)
Hi! While I encountered the same problem. The content of my output_log.txt is simply "Crash!!!"
I have encountered similar behaviour with other games as well in the past - do we have to reinstall a specific driver package? That, plus a system restart, solved the issue the last time I had it.
BBI_YossarianKing Jan 20, 2016 @ 1:03pm
@Coldweather, just "Crash!" nothing else at all, no stack trace? That sounds like Unity giving up before it even gets started. If you are on a laptop with an integrated GPU as well as an add-on card then use the graphics control panel to ensure the game is not using the integrated GPU. What are your system specs? Please submit a support ticlet, thanks!
@yoyobi, thanks for the reply. I just sent out a support ticket. I will also post any progress with this issue here.

My system:
win7 ultimate 64bit
mainboard: gigabyte h97-d3h
cpu: i5-4790 @3.5 Ghz
RAM: 12GB
Directx11
GPU: nvidia GTX 960

I checked for use of the integrated gpu (negative), manually installed newest drivers (because geforce experience is... sub-optimal for clean driver installation), restarted, verified the game cache, No change so far.

Hmm, sounds like you've been thorough.

What is the name of the executable in your Deserts of Kharak folder? It should be DesertsOfKharak64.exe, for your 64-bit system.

Also, Can you right-click and get properties on this file:
Deserts of Kharak/Data/Mono/mono.dll

It should be 2,609,112 bytes.

If those spot-checks don't reveal anything then you could try a full Steam uninstall / reinstall, but would be nice to avoid waiting for the download. :-P
BBI_YossarianKing Jan 20, 2016 @ 3:19pm
Also, if you could attach your save files (contents of out\backup folder) to the support ticket that would be helpful.
Scn33ble Jan 20, 2016 @ 3:35pm
could run once with 'run as admin' and compatible mode set to windows 8. But after hitting the quit button... it crashed again :) look at it tomorrow again
@yoyobbi Both files are exactly as you described.

I cannot find the out/backup folder though, or anything that looks like a save file.

I will perform a fresh download overnight - after that I will post the results.

Thanks!

P.S.: I just realized I mistyped your handle both here and in the ticket... I should go to bed now

I am getting the friendly "Your Game Crashed" also. Right at startup, the crashed window pops up and the game screen basically is locked up. I tried things like close EVGA Precision X and disabling SLI. Neither helped. Have a nice batch of dump/crash files which I'll submit per earlier in the trhead. Will wait off to go thru refund process to see if there is a fix as the game looks pretty fun.

Basically getting an Access Violation:
KERNELBASE.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module KERNELBASE.dll at 0033:fd7fb16d.
