I'd say that precise topography that actually influences line of sight is a big one.

Again...people are being way to reductive here. Just because the color brown it's a Dune/Ground control rip off? :steamfacepalm:

I never played Ground Control, I checked it out, it looks hella sweet for such an old game. As far as "what big innovations am i missing", probably none but im guessing ground control multiplayer is dead asf and who says a game has to make ground-breaking innovations to be fun. I cant think of many games that are reinventing the wheel, I've come across so many cool strategy games and bought them only to realize i'm 2 years too late to the party and the servers are ghost towns. After launch I bet its going to be super easy to find an MP game, How long will that last? Who can say...but it should be fun while it lasts.

Just went to Ground Control 2's community hub and there was fk'in tumbleweeds rolling around and a few poor bastards trying to find a MP match by game ranger or hamachi..... I dont know if multiplayer counts as a "big innovation" but....there's that

Definitely gives of a Ground Control 1 & 2 vibe. I don't see the issue with that, it's been a very long time since we've had a ground rts that did 3d gameplay/camera right like GC did

As a GC / GC2 veteran there are no similarities at all - apart from ocasional visual or two... But that is all. This is Homeworld game in and out ...

Well... there are some similarities. Outside of GC/CG2/WiC this is the first ground based rts with 3d cam and a major focus on elevation we have had in a long time. The tracked vehicle faction vs hovercraft faction mirror GC1 pretty well, and both the Gaalsien/Dawnies are religious fanatics with red/black colors who use said hovercrafts. The artillery pieces also has the classic gameplay/look of GC1 in particular (to some extent GC2/WiC). And to top it off the aircraft in this game both look and behave just like airodynes from GC1

Yes, as I said, ocasional visual or two... But I wouldn't go further than that.

So you're saying this would not pass of as a GC game if they went with that license instead of HW? In the same way that Starcraft 2 could never pass off as a GC game even if they used GC story/art

Difference between GC1 and GC2 was HUGE - so, with this in mind, to have another HUGE difference between GC2 and GC3 is perfectly fine. In this sense, yes, this could be called GC3.

But then again, as soon as I would see it I would say this is HOMEWORLD and nothing else...

Talking about gameplay here not ascetics. This could fit right in line after GC2. More so than any other rts released since WiC.

It's not the same game as GC of course, and it's clearly not a ripoff, but the similarities are clear

Man...

Gameplay is HOMEWORLD inside out and has very little to do with GC (apart from the fact that is ground based).

Everything about this game shouts HOMEWORLD!

From visuals all the way down to gameplay (not to mention the story itself) ... :)

But if you insist to call it Ground Control 3 then by all means do it!

Oh but I agree. This game screams Homeworld through and through. Seems like a truly worthy prequel imo. My point is simply that this HW installment clearly has similarities to the GC franchise on multiple levels.

That's just an observation about a game I'm looking forward to. Steam forums can be used for more than just whining you know

OK then we agree on almost everything apart from, quote: "...similarities to the GC franchise on multiple levels"

As said before, apart from handful of visual things (and obvious things such as sci-fi genre and real time tactics) I can't see any oter similarities whatsoever...

Fair enough. Then we should just agree to disagree I think. To me this game seems to fit into a 'gameplay brand' of 3d ground rts we have not seen outside of the GC series before

In the IGN videos, the Dev's specifically say that they drew some inspiration from the Ground Control game mechanics.
Nothing wrong with that, if it aint broke...why fix it
