DLC's
Besides the aesthetic changes/voices and changes to the carrier and base runner

Do the DLC's actually change anything else? I see listed in the DLC info there's some other things listed on the cruisers, but they see to mention changes that the vanilla fleets already have. eg Kaaneph already has the siege cruiser so why list it as an addition in the Gaalsien DLC

Thanks in advance if im missing something

I think you mean 'Gaalsien have a siege cruiser so why list it as an addition to Khaaneph' as Gaalsien are in the base game.

However, to answer your question - yes. They're less brand new factions and more subfactions of the Coalition (Soban) and Gaalsien (Khaaneph) respectively - Soban are more focused on head-on fights with a more emphasis on armour and railguns while Khaaneph are more focused on micromanagement with lots of activated abilities. Generally all the factions have rough equivalents of a given unit type, it's not like Starcraft where all factions are totally different. All factions use Siege cruisers for example but the individual ones tend to vary more or less.

Also, in case you missed it, the DLC factions only work outside of the campaign.

thanks, i was getting mixed up with the faction names so i tried just guessing :D thanks

are the 2 siege cruisers any different between khaaneph and gaalsien? or are they the same except for looks?

what u say about the coalition vs khaaneph makes sense, ive played a couple skirmishes with the khaaneph (and finished the campaign) and i was thinking its a lot tougher trying to win with the khaaneph due to their micro and abilities. coalition u just send them at the enemy with minimal tactical plannign compared to khaneeph (well vs the AI anyway) also seen how the units are similar yet different.

There is some good differences between the siege cruisers. While the main firing mode of the Gaalsien one is a long range barrage that will start rfiring if the enemy is in sight, the Khaaneph has a short range firing mode that reassembles more the Assault Cruiser from Coalition.

The Khaaneph Barrage hability is more precise, but it requrires a research to increase its range. I believe both share the EMP reseach upgrade.

The Khaaneph Siege cruiser is trully a force to be reckon with and can change the control of certain areas without extra help, while the Gaalsien Siege cruisers is a long range arty that needs backup of smaller units for self defense.

The differences between the factions are vast. The few changes they made to the units impact the gameplay quite drastically and totally change how the DLC factions play. If you want a good explanation of the differences check out some of my videos:

I wouldn't say the differences are 'vast'. There's some differences to be sure but comparing Khaaneph to Gaalsien isn't exactly comparing Terran to Zerg or GDI to Scrin.

I would argue that playing Khaaneph is nothing like playing Gaalsien, unless you really go out of your way to ignore all of the factions unique mechanics and tools. For example, I never build Railguns when playing Khaaneph, which are a staple unit in the Gaalsien army. That alone changes the dynamic drastically. Add to that heavy use of Blast Drones and the Carriers ,issile system it a totally different ball game.

I suppose you could say that Assault Ships and Interceptors are the same, which I use heavily with Khaaneph.

ah thanks for the info. i bought the Khaaneph DLC. i see what u said about the siege cruiser. i prefer the khaaneph one, so i can see how one could use them a lot more than the standard siege cruiser, i see how it changes the tactics as well.

depending on what u compare it to i can see how this makes a vast difference (in DoK terms its vast) but if we compare it to starcraft, then it is only minor differences, but atleast theres more difference than i thought.

hopefully from december i can start playing some MP games and put these things to good use.

sorry 2 more questions. does the soban DLC change as much as the khaaneph? if ur using siege cruisers so much, what do u use against enemy battlecruisers (heavy crusier)/ honour guard(rail gun cruiser)?

Soban play a bit more similar to Coalition. But different enough to make it enjoyable.Khaaneph Siege Cruisers can take on any other cruiser in the game except Coalition Battlecruisers. The only thing is they need to get in close. Thats where your Carriers missile system comes in to play. With a few levels of power, that thing can wipe cruisers off the map all day long.

Thanks, I think I will hold back a bit on getting Soban then. I would like to experience the current factions a little more so that buying Soban feels like im getting more. I was looking at the videos on them and they do seem to play so similar to the Coalition (well from someone that has hardly played the game it seems that way)

So unless ur using the carrier (which isnt always possible) I might have to rely on rail frigates to fight BC's? Since i would think the opponent could just kite/shield their BC if i try to close with my own siege frigate.

As Khaaneph? Use Carrier missiles to counter BC. Or heavy rails or precision bombers. Besides that you should have siege cruisers YEARS before you opponent has BC, so punish them hard if they are trying to tech.

thanks, but i find the siege cruisers are getting nailed by rails, since they have better range and speed, so can easily kite the siege to death. if i barage then rails just scatter while firing anyway.

then i find the carrier missile doesnt do enough damage/have nearly enough range by the time the enemy has BC nevermind the extreme range on the coal railgun O.o

300ms latency isnt helping much either, at least thats only 50% of the games. i find these DoK servers all have quite bad latency for some reason. i can play company of heroes and starcraft with people across the world with no noticeable lag, but most DoK games have some lag.

DLC's are a joke. Like the whole unfinished game is. saddly...
