Need help on campaign

I'm early in the campaign - have found some derelect space ship & have to set up 3 scanners at various locations. The problem is so many enemies are coming in, they are overwhelming me. Even with resources at the site, I am out of resources - trying to replenish what I'm losing.

It's never-ending waves. I've been using my support cruiser + rachel to help defend the first scanner location, but even with 2 turrets up, I just eventually run out of resources and get whittled down to nothing.

What am I supposed to do in order to even move to the 2nd scanner site if I can't even defend the first?

I never tried the hardest difficulty campaign so maybe I can't help you. But I recommand you to search a youtube channel called "dreamlands", it got full went through for all levels on top difficulty. and very nice commentary too!

I play @ medium difficulty struggeling there too. Cool game, but hard for noobs in this genre. Homeworld is the only strategy game I play. Normally l'm a shooter guy. I'll try the video. THX

Thanks for the link - it doesn't give me hope. He has 2x the number of units, he knows how to use air (how is telling the air units to attack?), and smoke, and very cautious.

He also spent considerable time getting resources before going to the first site. I'm on the first site already. need to look at how to reset.

BTW - one infuriating thing about this game is when I'm ready to quit and think about it, ESC doesn't work? I have to ALT-F4 out of the game? Is there a way to stop the campaign once you've started?

You can can command the air units to go out of the carrier and strike a zone, and then select all the planes ( I recommend using the sensor manager to do it) and click in a particular target.

You can go to the campaign menu and restart the mission. It also has an option to load the "default fleet". I don't know its composition, but it seems to be a basic fleet picked by the devs.
