As a playtester I want to write my review like quite early (and I possibly will forget about it if I don't do it now..). So don't be confused, why I do not have that much playtime (yet!), I did play the playtest version! (:

This game is (for me personally) really unique. Why? Let me tell you:

- Unique Ghost Models (nothing out of any store or could be found in every spooky game, no, unique)
- a provocation mechanic, which you can use to provoke the ghost to do stuff. You can get the evidence you need and do
not need to wait long for something to happen
- the game is made by a Solo-Dev, what's really impressive, also it's his 2nd game (let's not forget that)
- You got a manager mode for your investigation tools, means you can check the evidence after you've taken it
- You got a backpack, so you have all your gear with you at every moment
- a really dark and horrific story (regular ghost-hunting games are only about gathering evidence and maaaybe releasing the ghosts)
- the ghosts do not harm you, so you do not need to worry about being in danger (doesn't mean you won't get jumpscared)
- the dev cares about feedback and is always trying to get the best experience for everyone
- the ghosts do have a lvling system, means you can „lvl up“ a ghost and its activity with finding evidence
- the game is realistic, means, if you're going in a spooky mansion in the middle of the night with your ghost investigation
tool, this is what you COULD expect
- you have a deduction board with useful information always with you, where you can also organize your gathered evidence

This about the pros for the game for me personally. Now about the game itself:

So, Among the Whispers Provocation takes place in New Eidolon, seems to be a really spooky place. You're playing as a paranormal investigator who's trying to release ghosts and discovers a pretty horrific story during her time being around (DW, no spoilers.)

In the beginning you'll only have a few rooms unlocked, where you can investigate and need to find proof that the ghosts roam around there. The more ghosts in different locations you release, the more floors and ghosts you can unlock to investigate.

I love the fact that the dev did build the protagonist from the previous game in it. I won't name any details to not ruin the fun/surprise.

For a price of $14,99 I definitely will recommend this one and will spend a lot of time in this game.

Yet again this same developer has created a ghost hunting game that feels realistic, just like it's predecessor Conrad Stevenson's Paranormal P.I.

The overall atmosphere is great, the gathering of evidence, listening to what the ghosts have to say and researching the names on Fallen Apple is probably my favourite part too, satisfying when I get it right. I had a ghost that gave me a clue on her death when she showed herself, and shouted out loud how she died, which gave me an "aha! I found who it is" sort of feeling lol

Anyway, I highly recommend this game if you like the sound of a proper thorough investigation themed ghost hunting game

I'm genuinely conflicted — if a neutral rating were possible, I’d probably go with that.

The first 50 minutes were a delight. The UI is intuitive, the tutorial does a great job explaining the core mechanics, and the gameplay is engaging right from the start. The atmosphere is exactly what I hoped for, and everything ran smoothly — aside from some frame drops during faster camera movements, which were mildly annoying but not game-breaking (i9-12900 12'th gen, RTX 3080Ti).

Unfortunately, things took a turn after the 50-minute mark. While using the deduction panel, I encountered a small but frustrating bug that snowballed into a much bigger issue. One of the documents I was examining got "stuck" on screen and couldn’t be closed, covering nearly the entire display. I couldn’t move, interact with anything, or even access the quick menu. My only option was to exit to the main menu, effectively ending the session.

From there, I saw a “Continue” option and hoped it would bring me back to where I left off — but instead, I discovered that all my progress had been lost. The stuck document was gone, but so was my entire investigation. With nothing more to lose, I tried resetting my save, hoping to at least see some of the game’s promised randomization in action. Unfortunately, the game restarted exactly the same way as before. Perhaps the first ghost encounter is hardcoded — but regardless, it was disappointing.

What makes this more frustrating is that I still don’t know whether the loss of progress was a bug or an intentional feature. I hope it’s the former — because if there truly is no proper save system, that would be a serious design flaw, hard to justify in a modern investigative game.

Despite all this, I still believe the game has huge potential, and I genuinely want to see it succeed. That’s why I’m leaving a positive review — but with a word of caution. If you're hesitant about supporting the game at this stage, consider waiting for the first patches and an official clarification from the developer on how saving is intended to work.
