HDR implementation in this game is awful
Really disappointed such a big title has such awful HDR implementation. I have an OLED monitor and toggling on HDR in game makes all colors gray/washed out and it looks terrible. So many AAA devs lately can't seem to get this right and it sucks for folks who have OLED monitors/tv's to not be able to experience what that stuff has to offer.

Not even sure if they can fix this, but DICE, please put a little more effort into this.

This post has more to do with colors and poor HDR implementation in general, I'm not talking about visibility issues here.
Go to
"C:\Users\**USER**\Documents\Battlefield 6\settings\steam" Open up "PROFSAVE_profile" with notepad. Search for "GstRender.DisplayMappingHdr10PeakLuma" Some people are reporting this at 10,000 when it should be around 1000, or what ever the Peak Nits are of your monitor, most common being 1000. I personally run 950 and its better. But you are not wrong about to color grading and blown out scenes from the eye adaption.
Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the info. I'll check this out!

Edit: Mine was at 650 apparently (my monitor is rated for 1300 nits and it still looked VERY washed out.

I think the HDR in this game is pretty damn good, you're using a custom color profile you created in the HDR calibration app for your monitor right? at the last step I always like to increase the color saturation to max (my preferance but gives a nice boost to all colors in HDR without being overly saturated)

I'm using the LG 32gs95ue monitor (4k). I followed a youtube guide for certain settings on this monitor + Win calibration. The saturation I leave alone because it looks unnatural and off to my eyes. None of the ICC Profile settings online that I've used have looked good at all in any games/media. The setup I have now looks great in 90% of the games I play on my PC. BF6 is the first time I was really dissapointed with how washed out/ gray the colors look. It's way better looking in SDR for me
I think I might have a similar if not the same monitor I got the LG 32GS95UE-B it's the 240/480hz one with the WOLED panel that says it's 1300nits... not quite.

You're not trying to run True Black 400 or anything like that in gamer 1 mode?
If you are use Gamer 1 OSD setting; peak Brightness should be LOW with 100 brightness. HDR color profile in Calibration APP peak and real scene brightness should be at 650

For games on this monitor IMO this is best
Game Mode: Gamer 2
Brightness: 100
Peak Brightness: High
Smart Energy Saving: Off

HDR Calibration just set black level to 0, and peak brightness and real scene brightness to 1000 and call it a day, then match game setting to 1000 peak brightness.

Below are testd real values for this panel:

Thank you for sharing this! For normal SDR gaming/browsing, Im at:

Gamer Mode 1
black stabilizer 50
brightness 85
peak brightness off
contrast 70
sharpness 50
gamma mode 2

Now when HDR is enabled:

Gamer Mode 1
black stabilizer 50
brightness 100
peak brightness low
sharpness 50
color temp warm

When you get a chance can you share both of yours for SDR/HDR please? I'd like to compare mine and yours on my end. Thank you again for the info!
There are several ways to configure HDR. If your system, monitor, or game has a “misunderstanding” of these settings, HDR can cause low saturation of colors.
All you need to do is open the NVIDIA control panel and increase the digital saturation of the colors to your liking.

Sure. I pretty much use rtings settings.
In order to compare you will have to change your default system color profile.
I use a calibrated profile from rtings, they have a very expensive colorimeter and have calibrated this panel. you can download the profile from here, scroll down to Color Accuracy (Post-Calibration) and there is a download link there for their .ICC profile, once downloaded apply it as your system default in advanced settings.

When you set the OSD settings make sure you're setting them while HDR is OFF or ON for SDR or HDR. The settings save to the OSD based on HDR status. when you toggle HDR status ON/OF the OSD settings change with it based on HDR status.

Here are my OSD settings:

OSD SDR - General Use
Brightness - 84 (200 Nits)
Peak Brightness - OFF
Contrast - 70
Sharpness - 50
Gamma - Mode 2
Color Temp - Custom
R/G/B/ - Red 49, Green, 49, Blue 50
Black level - High

OSD SDR For Gaming - Gamer 1
Same as for general use except:
Brightness - 100
Peak Brightness - Low

HDR
When you make HDR Color Profiles with the Win11 HDR calibration tool and make sure you input the correct #'s as per manufacturers Panel Specs. Don't follow the Picture Previews because they are wrong. All that matters is that you input the Correct # for the panel.

Calibration for Gamer 1, VESA DisplayHDR Certification, DisplayHDR TRUE BLACK 400
Minimum Luminance - 0.000
Maximum Luminance - 650
Max Full Frame Luminance Test - 650
Color Saturation - (preference) I made 2 profiles one with default and one with Max

OSD HDR - Gamer 1, VESA DisplayHDR Certification, DisplayHDR TRUE BLACK 400
Brightness - 100
Peak Brightness - Low
Sharpness - 50
Color Temp - Warm

For Gamer 2 Calibration I use 1000 even tho Panel can go a bit higher (it only effects 2% window) it's bright enough and a lot of games max luminance settings maxes out at 1000. To get more you need to manually tweak engine config profiles, 100 or so more lumen at 2% makes a negligible difference.

Calibration for Gamer 2
Minimum Luminance - 0.000
Maximum Luminance - 1000
Max Full Frame Luminance Test - 1000
Color Saturation - (preference) I use MAX

OSD HDR - Gamer 2
Brightness - 100
Peak Brightness - High
Sharpness - 50
Color Temp - Manual 0

When using HDR make sure the Calibration .ICC prorofile is enabled, and change between the Profiles based on If you're using Gamer1 or Gamer 2 (I prefer Gamer 2 for most games) otherwise the Panel will not use your HDR calibration Settings. Also make sure in Nvidia Control Panel the right color settings are applied at least 10bit

It's also important to have Max Luminance in Game match your calibration settings exactly, IN BF6 the Default setting is 1000, you can tweak this in cfg file GstRender.DisplayMappingHdr10PeakLuma 1000.000000, or it's 40 clicks with arrow key from 0. the setting per click is 25 nits. if there is a mismatch between Calibrated profile and game setting then you might get washed out look based on how different the settings are.
Try this, worked for me as i was experiencing the same issues. Got this from a previous thread

The last few adjustments made the biggest difference especially .

"HDR is broke. It uses windows HDR. Make sure under windows display settings it's turned on. Even with it one mine was still broke.

I had to go to My Documents, Battlefield 6, Settings, PROF.SAV_Profile.

Open it up with notepad. I had to change GST.RenderDisplayMappingHDRpeaklumma to 400. It was on 10,000 (my screen only tops at 400 nits so you should change that to your screen specs.

Also had to change GST.Render Directx12. It was set to 0 (off). Change it to 1.

Change Gst.Render HighDynamicRangemode from 0 to 1.

Doing all of this finally fixed my HDR and it's very clear now. Also increased my FPS on Ultra from 110ish to 160 fps (prob because it never had my direct x 12 turned on for some reason)"

This isn't the 1st time I read about people changing the GST.Render Directx12 from 0 to 1 and getting better performance. I haven't tried it yet I wonder what this setting actually does.
It certainly isn't enabling DX12 because this game is Dx12 only and runs in DX12 by default. This can be verified by looking at a variety of performance monitoring softwares/overlays.
This engine variable I think is left over from BF5 when the game supported Dx11 & Dx12.
If you're getting a big FPS boost by setting "GST.Render Directx12" from 0 to 1 then It might be using some sort of alternate DX12 rendering profile that disables some advanced DX12 rendering techniques/settings that are being used by the default DX12 profile.
... bad monitor perhaps ?

Game looks bright and decent on my IPS QD-Led Ultragear 😙🤌🏼

And ehh... as some folks pointed out... it Helps a TON to callibrate your monitor in windoze ...
especially for the black & white levels (gama correction Dark Vs Bright ) in games 😉

Battlefield has often been made to look like that

that LG monitor is a WOLED which is less colourful than a QDOLED but can produce better contrast because it uses white LEDs instead of blue

on my WOLED i run 'native HDR' & 'reference mode' in nVIDIA Control Panel, it looks more bland but it's more realistc

mine says 537.705200, i think my monitor is rated upto 900 - i could use 'uniform brightness'

if i buy another monitor i would prefer a WOLED with TrueBlack

Maybe ... you should have opted for the Lg GQ32-850B series 😙👌🏼

L..G... LIfe's Good 😏
i use RTX HDR and got 0 problems with HDR. (55" 4K OLED from LG)
Worth a try for RTX GPUs.
