Building a Mob Spawner ( Help guide)
Hey guys so this isn't a full out guide. Just some basics in helping you to get a mob spawner that works, i put in a good 4 - 5 hours trying different locations and methods before i got a proper corruption mob spawner to work.

just some tips are:

1. Make sure when you build your pad it is a minimal size of 15 x 15, the bigger the better.
2. Make sure you do not build above mountain peaks as it of course does not spawn enemys, there are also spots in the world id like to call "dead zones" which enemys do not spawn. So make sure you really pay attention to what is around you and build somewhere where enemys do spawn.
3. Use ALL blocks of that biome, so for the floor iv'e used ALL corrupted stone ( i tried the half dirt half stone and it didn't yield any mobs) so just stick to the stone. I then used corrupted stone wall as the wall and roof!. Glass around the cage and i also made sure to do 2 levels of corrupted Stone, so dig down 2 levels and evenly fill 2 levels, (used iron door)
4. Give about 3 - 4 block height before the ceiling.

So what i did was took some tnt and blew into the side of the mountain (where i made sure enemys spawned) but sure enough it finally worked!

I had attempted numerous amounts of times previous and been unsuccessfull until now!
hope some of these tips at least helped you guys somewhat of my research and experience with these. ( Will be starting to build a lava one soon)

Here is a screenshot of my corrupted spawner

How do you mine corrupted stone? I found some but don't know how to take it.
Animosity 2015 年 1 月 25 日 下午 8:25
Diamond power cell will mine that for you

i made two farmcells yesterday which are working just fine

due to my worlds design i made a building made of crafted blocks (crafted blocks are important to prevent conversion by corruption). Each floor is holding a single cell of a size 11*11*5 blocks.

once the building was prepared i filled all sides with blocks of the chosen region (corrupted stones for corruption and hardened Lava for lava). the sides and the top are just cosmetical and dont matter. AFAIK only the ground layer is important. Once the Cells were done it took 1-2 ingame days to acclimate and they started working.

its important to prevent the use of artificial light that reaches inside the cell as any lighted block wont spawn chests nor mobs. natural light wont have that effect.

when building farmcells you also should fill up any space underneath those cells as chests and mobs might spawn inside that space.

those cells come and pay a visit (world 'blackrock' pw: brsi).

i learned most of this over time but some things were told and tested by Hexorcist.

I built an 8x8 working spawner at height level 220 (250 is build max) so size and height have less to do with it than what you say here. It has more to do with number of spawnable blocks in a chunk. I am beginning to think that a chunk is not just 16x16 like in other games but also has a height of 16...so 16x16x16. Anyways I have done some rpetty extensive testing on some of these theories and made a video for it on twitch and posted the backup on youtube.

@Kubi

yep natural light wont effect the spawn rate. but once the area gets too bright underground mobs tend to start burning ;)

i got a small lavacell, maybe 8*8*3 with one side having glasswindow but no lamps. i always have like 4 hotworms, 3 warmworms and 2-3 chests ( as long as the hotworms don start burning). i tested it with lamps. result: the cell was empty for half a day till i removed the lamps)

there is one exception though. a certain someones 'pet' wont spawn without lights as coal torches are requirement for causing spawning AFAIK.

So, say I want to make a mob spawner for warmworms, I would just build a box 16x16x16 out of stalactites and make sure there is no light inside? Would this "box" have to be more than one block thick? Would it have to be located at the same world depth I'd ordinarily find warmworms? I'm a total noob when it comes to building stuff, and even though I've mined through the various posts/tutorials on the subject, I'm still missing some concept that ties the whole process together.

as long as you have enough blocks in a chunk there will be spawns.

i made a lava cell with 8*8 and there are always like 3 hotworms and 2-3 warmworms in it.

except for content and light inside a chunk it doenst matter where it is.

you can always join a public world and ask for further information.

Thanks for the info, Hokami--I really appreciate the input.

@Kubiquity^3 maybe I'm calling them by the wrong name, I'm looking for the creature that provides the "wormtooth" resource. The ones that don't move, but spew lava/fire at you when you come too close. This whole mob farming concept is very exciting to me, really raises the game to new heights (or depths as the case may be!).

Nice community vibe:)

...currently im in the process of still testing which blocks spawn which mobs and at what levels etc...just tyi for any interested.

@jasonbarron yes that would be the warmworm...and I would use igneous rock and/or hardened lava for those not stalactite because it will spawn the Mirus as well.

+1!

I'll be trying these tactics out later tonight:)
Hoki 2015 年 2 月 7 日 下午 3:38
well depends

warmworms spawn on stalactite and lava blocks. but so do mirus and hotworms. and of those two it depends what kinda drops you need the most.

Mirus (stalactite) drop their eyes which is needed for mid-tier armor. Hotworms (lava blocks) on the other side drop gunpowder which you'll need to make bombs.

i hope i dun have to add that hotworms are harder to kill and more agressive ;)
TheRemyD 2015 年 2 月 8 日 上午 7:32
I prefer to hunt the warm worms on stalactite since miru are easier to kill with higher tier gear. Also the Hotfeet tend to hit harder than miru. that being said if you hunt the warmworms on hardened lava then you will also get iron chests spawning which will have better stuff in them. So if you are wanting a spawning pad that has the best drops overall then the hardened lava is the way to go.

The easiest way to build one of these is to just go down to the lava layer and clean the top of that layer off to a flat area. The bigger the Better. if it is important to have that spawner close to your base then once again the bigger the better. so long as you have a huge platform then you will have at least one spawnable chunk. The smallest platform that I can think of that would work no matter where you placed it would be a 16x16x1.

If you are wanting to make it the smallest yet still viable then an 8x8x1 that is completely within a single chunk is the way to go.

i have a 16x16 lava spawner and it seems to spawn at least 6 enemys and 1 chest usually, I never see less than 5 enemys at a time on it
Drax99 2015 年 11 月 16 日 上午 8:49
Not sure if Im bugged or doing something wrong. Built a room, 31x3x4, floored with stone, and stone brick for walls and ceiling. While I was mining, mobs spawned all the time if i didnt light it enough. Now I am done, pulled all the lights, and nothing is spawning!

Do mobs not spawn on stone? I know I did a Peakstone spawner out in the ocean and it worked fine with a single layer of peakstone. I'm thinking maybe I need to switch to lava. Will I get all the recipes I need from the chests, because I was gonna farm the surface/fossil layer stuff first.
TheRemyD 2015 年 11 月 16 日 上午 11:18
While I love the idea of farms it is so much easier to just set teleporters and enjoy the mobs in their natural habitats.

Mobs still spawn on Stone, and low light is needed for that to spawn correctly.

As far as mob farms go the easiest way to make them is a 16x16 pad.
Animosity 2015 年 11 月 16 日 下午 12:56
I made this along time ago, and haven't played recently or built mob spawnerd since this post so I can't help you.

If I can recal, stone spawnerd never worked though. Lava and corrupted were all that I used to do.
