[Spoiler] Working mob farm
Working mob farm

Explanation:

So we all build some floor where we can kill monster for their items, what i'm offering is a working design where you can kill a thing with out taking damage, or kill 20 monsters at the same time. Monsters wil spawn on the spawning platform and when they move in the path of a fan they get pushed to the center where they teleport to a small confined space where you can kill them with out them hurting the player.

Tutorial

First of for efficiency reasons you gonna need to to move to a corner of the map, from there make sure that there is no land mass with in 500 blocks and make sure you start building a leased 40 levels above sea level. (This is all for the mob farm to work better) From there you want to start of your building.

First of you begin building a killing platform similar to this:

Note that it is a 3 by 3 aria with a teleporter suspended up in the air, the teleporter it self is 5 blocks away from the slabs, by using slabs with the upside down stair you create a little gab where monsters can't pass true. by doing this you can stand 3 blocks away and hit the monsters with out them being able to hit you. i also have a stair case going to the hight of where the teleporter is so i can drop bombs in the tube killing them faster.

For the spawning floor i created this platform :

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=631974959

First of make sure you center this with in the middle of a chunk on the bottom layer (to find out where the chunk is type in /sim and look at the nr shown in chat. The bigger nr is the chunk and the small nr is the layer of that chunk.)

I have teleporters in a 3 by 3 formation and from there each layer is 4 blocks long (monsters can only be pushed 3 blocks so i have the fan on the 4th block.)

Each layer is 3 blocks thick (for people that don't know spawning mechanics, the engine needs a certain nr of blocks in a chunk to determine if mobs can spawn there.

From there is go up 1 block for each layer. (the reason for only 1 block is because i have seen monsters resist falling down more then 1 block.) Note that my fans have a 1 block gape between them, this is due game mechanics where mobs don't seem to like standing in front of a fan unless there is a space on the other side of where the fan is pointing at.

If you like me and you see monsters have stopped spawning... Just quit the game, wait 5 min and come back, the engine will spawn in monsters again.

I like to thank RemyD for helping me out with the technical stuff. And i hope this tutorial is helpful, if for some reason it wasn't helpful? you always welcome to come on to farrahs (my world) and take RemyD's portal to come and take a look

That's awesome. I took a look on your world but dustevil do not teleport?

A fan can only push a mob when it moves in front of it, the dustevil never move unless they are tracking you. i tried aggroing them but they seem to go back to sleep from the moment you leave the platform.

Ok. I have some problem with understandig the middle of chunk thing. Can you explain me this with a example?

The world is made up with chunks, A chunk is 16 by 16 and 16 blocks high. When you type in /sim you will see a nr like this 510,5,150. The first nr is East/West, the second nr is up/down, the third nr is North/South.

You just move around and see where 510 begins and ends, then do the same with 150. Finally you look where lowest block is.

Can you look at this picture. The Fields under my Mob farm with the Adobe Walls are the cunk's.
Have I begin in the right way?

from a picture i can't tell what your cunk is

At the lower bottom the blue yellow and white adobe walls. This fields mark the chunk 16x16 each field.

seems good, i can see you're using 3 layers, this is good. I didn't test how the farm works with the new spawning mechanics in R29 (they said they increased the spawning so don't know if this fixes the issues i had before with the mobs just not spawning after some time)

a simpler method would be digging a wide rectangle with its edges lined as a 3 depth hole of space, then lure everything around you towards it.

still a nice idea for the 2nd part, I could've like.. put a teleporter at the middle and connect it to someone's base to see all the spawn go into their base..... oh the horror....
