Using the Mini Map to Locate Chests at Night

I've been discovering how to use the mini map to find chests at night . Not all chests show up on the map, but some do. It seems those with unobstructed south-facing openings show up best (all chests have their openings facing south). Also, they have to be out in the open, meaning not under a tree or anything.

To keep it night time, I carry a bed with me and when day comes, I sleep again until it's night again. That way, it's always night and I get max chest finding time (as chests only spawn at night).

So, I use the mini map a lot when I'm out in the grasslands to help find chests that might be obstructed from view by hills, etc.

The chests show up as bright yellow points. However, it might take a bit of trial and error to tell the difference between those yellow spots and other yellow objects on the map.

I think that MrMajor is questioning the OP's terminology. The World Map can be accessed by hitting M. I assume that the poster is referring to the zoomed in mode of the World Map. Although, to be honest, a MiniMap would be fun.
