Gauntlet Smash Block Transformations
So, today I gauntlet smashed a trog, who was standing on the edge of water. I got the trog, but also the smash destroyed the water and turned the mud into adobe bricks.

I was curious what other block transformations the gauntlet smash allowed.

*cue gauntlet smash testing montage*

Generally, if you are using the smash on a flat surface, it will transform 13 blocks.

  • Grass into dirt (but NOT dead, ie tundra, grass)
  • Snow into flattened snow (formerly needed to use the plow, yesss!)
  • Hardened lava into liquid lava (ouch!)
  • Snowy elderwood leaves into plain elderwood leaves
  • Mud into adobe bricks (nice!)
  • Fossils into tar
  • Snowcap into dirt
  • Savannah grass into rocky dirt
  • Coal into diamonds (woo, fantastic!)

Blocks that are destroyed:
  • Water (not tested on all liquid types yet)
  • Leaves (but NOT block flowers or beeswax) (not tested all types of leaves)
  • Savannah flowers (but NOT tundra flowers)
  • Reeds (but NOT cattails or lilypads)
  • Tallgrass (both savannah and green)
  • Weeds
  • Savannah shrub
  • Fallen leaves (but NOT rimecones or mushrooms)

Note: I was going to write this up in a guide, but found AvatarAlice had already done that, which also details which mining cell you need to use to enable the transformation (I was using a lumite cell).

(@AvatarAlice, please feel free to add all the ones to your guide, which are not already mentioned, it will be great to have this all in one place).

I haven't tested it on molasses or tar. It works on all the others. If I use it too close to one of my traps the trap will be empty & monsters will just collect in there without dying. This is for both corrupted & mineral water traps. I had bog water in a garden which was accidentally destroyed. I cleared some water out of a corruption layer using the smash attack. (I was testing if it was faster than fire bombs. It isn't.) And the liquid lava I tested merely because I was curious. (I was wearing lumite.)

I'm worried less about WHICH glove does these things. I usually wear lumite. I'm worried more about where I can safely use this attack now without damagin a build, wasting precious materials, or scarring the natural landscape. In particular reference to that last point, it looks like the answer is fossil, stalactite, or most a completely crafted area. I like to use natural blocks in my builds so I have to be really, really careful now. If I get caught by a mob in one of my mob farms I'll probably just run, I don't want to risk any nearby leaves by fighting back.

@LuckySheep, yeah we have to be super careful now, I can't use the smash on entulands awesome spawner to kill warmworms anymore (which was great as it saved the sword) due to the hardened lava into liquid lava thing. I also use natural blocks in building, so need to watch out for this too. It would be awesome if we had a toggle switch to turn this function on/off (claimwise and worldwise). (Molasses is destroyed, haven't checked tar).

@JoJo no worries, glad if it was of help :)

Ooops, thanks Shiva, I'm a bit half asleep, not only did I post in the wrong forum but I forgot to check if there was already a thread about this (which there was)... sorry, and thanks again for fixing it.

I've tried smashing tar; IIRC it destroyed tar.

Ok, thanks for checking that, Jellian :)

I still kill warmworms just fine, I just pop off my gauntlet when in any lava spawner or area and smash away and then just put my gauntlet back on when I'm done smashing mobs for loot. Remember the smash attack damage is based on your weapon level, not your mining cell.

I've actually gotten used to just removing my mining cell most of the time when I am just hunting mobs.
