Water building questions
Recently got the game and I'm learning all the mechanics that are different from minecraft. I've build a modest underwater base but I was thinking of doing something on a grand scale. I've found the best way to build grand underwater bases in minecraft the easiest is to actually build 1 block below the ocean floor. Build your entire base and then collapse the ceiling. This allows you to build without fear of drowning along with making your base appear quite a bit deeper then normal ocean areas.

My question is related to water fall and water generating mechanics.

If a large void opens up under the ocean floor will the water fall to cover those lower reaches? And will the water be falling water or will it generate "source water" blocks. (as in will it be a waterfall or will it be just a deeper part of the ocean)) I'm also curious if I turn the water above into mineral water, if it generates new source blocks will those be normal water or mineral water?

Thanks for any advice.

Moving this on over to Tips and Strategies. I'll let other players answer as I'm not a big underwater builder, but many here have =] - the search feature in this forum may yield some information for you too or the wiki =]

The problem with water in CV is that it *theoretically* should fill in the void, but the physics aspect is wonky and you might get waterfalls that end up in mid-air.

Mineral water will flow as mineral water, unless you freeze and un-freeze it, then it'll be just normal water.

Thanks, but I guess I could always put a new source block at the top of the waterfalls to fill it though, right?

I've done a ton of work with water. Falling water will not create source blocks, you will just continue to have an area with running water below the surface (along with the running water sounds).

In my experience, to create a source block, you have to surround the empty block with at least 3 source blocks that flow horizontally into the empty spot and it will convert that running water to a source block.

I've used 3 methods for filling large areas.

1. Flood fill a blueprint with source blocks... When I just have a ton of water blocks and don't care about losing a bunch.

2. Checkerboard pattern, 1 layer at a time from the bottom up.

3. Rows of water separated by a 1 block gap. Then at one end of the gap you place a source and it should fill the rest right down the line.

Looks like I'm going to have one heck of a time filling this once I build the base. Even have a large spot that goes all the way down to corruption, i was going to wall off corruption so it doesn't get flooded.
