Strip Mining = Profit
While working on my new MP world, I stumbled across an amazing strategy for getting massive amounts of resources and figured I'd share. You need advanced gear to do this, so it's not a rush strategy, but it will take your midgame to the next level. I got over 20,000 obsidian and 2,000 iron in three IRL days, not to mention 16,000 ruddy canyonstone, 12,000 siltstone, etc.

1) Get yourself to the Lumite tier and establish a diamond farm. While doing so, stockpile a few stacks of gunpowder, diamond, iron, stone, and obsidian and a stack of fire bombs. Kill Things until you get the Super Extractor recipie. You will need a large forging area: mine was only 6 forges and 3 arctek chests and I had to expand it. You will also need epic amounts of storage.

2) Find a claim that contains surface resources you want in abundance. High altitude is better. I wanted ruddy canyonstone so I started in a canyon with peaks up to chunk 8. Ground-level temp was 51 degrees.

3) Use a lumite glove to level the claim. Create advanced excavators (regular excavators are expensive and pointless) in lots of 81 and grid the claim with them, then clear them in rows, picking up the bags. If you have a pro account, you can clear 4-6 rows before your inventory is full.

4) Once all the rows are clear, start putting super extractors on all of the nodes you have revealed. For coal, I'd suggest fire-bombing about a third of what you've revealed so that you can extract diamond instead. Then collect all those extractors and laugh at the ridiculousness. On the most lucrative layer, I placed 264 super extractors on obsidian, coal, and diamond.

5) Repeat until you reach the stalactite layer, then re-level with the Lumite glove. Take a break in the corruption layer until you have a few hundred Lumite. Next, craft super excavators in lots of 81 and recreate step 4 until you reach the lava layer.

If you feel like the strip mine is ugly and you want to remove it, you can always re-build the surface and nobody will ever know. Unless they try to dig a hole and fall to the center of the earth. Since my intention was to clear space for a huge build, I didn't mind the giant square hole at all.

I've been tempted to do something similar and just cram everything into tons of random chests until I finsh and take time to organize things.

Yeah, it would be nice to be able to see the labels without having to mouse over the chest. You can put a sign on the front, or above the chest but in my case it would be a pain to select the chest without getting the sign.

This is how I see it.

I label mine like that. At the end of the row I have a sign that says what's in that row, in each row I have items in a column and the chests for them to the right in a column.

Strip mining is useful if you do a big enough area. I did a full claim once and found an insane amount of resources. I started near the top of a mountain and went all the way to the corruption.

After playing MC since Alpha, it's hard to not make comparrisons. It took them a few years, but they finally made the best labeling tool I've ever used - the Item Frame. There are too many items in this game that aren't placeable. Having the actual item visible on the chest makes it so much easier. Creativerse is better in almost every way to MC, but I'm hoping for something similar one day.

Put a shelf over the chest with items on it.

And to think, I still have the floor space available. ;-)
