Farming Iron?
BEST IRON FARM METHOD!

DISCLAIMER : Results will be different because of World Settings, Gear, Buffs and Luck! (Probably skill as well)

Skip to the bottom for results...

The long term fuss about how "Rare" Iron is made me think about why people were complaining so much about it.
I have been playing for long enough to know what is and what isn't "Rare".
Most of the people i speak to don't have an issue with the "Lack" of Iron... so where do all the complaints come from?

If we break down the game's tiers in to "Phases", we can safely assume that Iron is the Mid-Game of Creativerse.
As such, it is not unusual to see games increase in difficulty during this phase. (Finding Nodes can be difficult)
So it is difficult by design but why don't the people that i speak to complain?

If you have been playing Creativerse for at least a month and made it to the Corruption Layer and have your full Lumite gear,
You will notice that you have picked up quite a ton of iron on your way to the end tier.
This issue is not about the lack of iron... I believe that its about people having difficulty with the sudden mid-game spike.

If you crawl around in fossil layer caves, you will find Obsidian and Coal laced along the walls but the same cannot be said for
Iron in the stalactite layer. You can run around for days in the same cave (because they are HUGE) and still not see anything.

Whether you need iron for gear, items or blocks : its still an important part of the game.
I put together a list of all the ways you can get Iron, as a lowbie and a full Lumite GOD!
I performed these actions for 10 minutes at a time and recorded all the results.
Items used and gear degradation will also be recorded.

IMPORTANT NOTES :
*All nodes will be harvested with an Advanced Extractor to simulate a lowbie.
*All Mobs will be attacked using Obsidian Gear/Sword for the same reason.
*No glitching mobs or bombs will be used for killing mobs......... same reason.
*I did not include Excavators under the assumption that people have not made it to lava yet.
*I only killed Warmworms during the test because thats what you find in Stalactite caves.

TESTS DONE :

1. Farming Warmworms for Iron (RNG BASED)

2. Strip Farming with an Obsidian Mining Cell (LUCK BASED)

3. Making the Stalactite Layer go BOOOM !! (LUCK BASED)

4. Chest Farming at the Corruption Layer (RNG BASED)(More Treasure is Enabled on the world i play on)

RESULTS :

Test 1. Killing Mobs :

Gear Used : Full Obsidian w/ Sword
Consumables Used : 15 Mushrooms, 4 Basic Health Potions
Cost : Some flowers and Mushrooms (if you already had Obsidian gear)

Warmworms Killed : 15 (7 in the first 5 mins, 8 in the second 5 mins)
IRON GAINED : 2
Other Note-Worthy Loot : N/A (Just Basic Loot)

Test 2. Strip Farming :

Mining Cell Used : Obsidian Mining Cell
Number of Cells Used : 1,5 (First one broke after 7 mins)
Extractors Used : Advanced Extractors
Number of Extractors used : 5
Coal Torches used : 20
Cost : Just some Obsidian, Stone and Coal (if you already had the Mining Cell)

IRON GAINED : 50
Other Note-Worthy Loot : In my opinion, Mud and Mold should count because of how useful they are.

Test 3. Blowing it Up! :

Explosives Used : Strong TNT
Number of Explosives Used : 28
Extractors Used : Advanced Extractors
Number of Extractors Used : 24
Coal Torches Used : 30
Cost : Glob of Goo, Gun Powder and Obsidian are the most costly in this

IRON GAINED : 240
No Note-Worthy loot for this one... you blew it up!!!

Test 4. Chest Farming :

Gear Used : N/A (I used to do this with Iron gear, so you should be fine with anything)
Consumables Used : Corruption Resistance Potion, 10 Mushrooms and 1 Basic Health Potion
Cost : Trog Horn, Cactus Flowers and Dustevil Dust are the bulk of the cost for this one
Number of Diamond Chests Found : 8

IRON GAINED : 30
Other Notable Loot : Yellow Top Hat ( I expected more from this... )

FINAL THOUGHTS :
After doing these tests, I understand why people do complain about how "rare" Iron is...
BUT!!! You can find a lot of it if you use the right methods.
There are tutorials on all of these methods on Youtube.
I hope this helped the player base and devs.
Post questions if you have any.
If not.
Enjoy!.......... ignore my bad English!.... 3am.... too tired to proof read....

I love these comparisons :)

My favorite method for farming iron ore is a different one not listed by
AshenJester: artificial biomes combined with kill-traps (an option that was added at the end of 2017).

You can either create artificial biomes from hardened lava (can be made infinitely by letting liquid lava flow and cool down) or igneous rock (not hot, so no risks to take environmental burning damage) to spawn iron treasure chests. These biomes can be combined with teleporters leading to kill-traps that will automatically drown hot feet additionally.

Or you can build artificial biomes from any type of corrupted blocks (or use dirt, grass or any kind of wood that you can then corrupt with corrupt bombs), which will make diamond treasure chests spawn. Kill-traps on and/or next to these biomes will provide you with lots of useful stuff any time a Thing or Keepa walks into the teleporter leading to the trap :D

You can either use your bed to skip the day or build walls and ceilings around your "arenas" (or "spawners"), since iron treasure chests and diamond treasure chests will spawn in dark areas during the day too. I recommend placing ladders into the kill-trap just in case you fall into it or walk into one of the teleporters leading there accidentially ;)

To add a small note for newbies lacking the proper armor (or anyone else who just happens to have snowballs while spelunking):

Two direct hits to a Warmworm with snowballs (made from processing snow in a processor) will kill it and leave it's loot.

Stand from a safe distance and hit the Warmworm. It will steam, indicating a direct hit. Just throw another and it will steam again for a few seconds and then die, leaving it's loot bag behind.

Hotfoots can be killed the same way, but usually take 3 snowballs and will attack you if you are too close. This may be random, but I have also noticed that they tend to leave less iron if killed this way. However, it is a good way to get rid of them if they are just bugging you to death.

Great post OP and Happy Creating! :rocketsaway:

How make spawner iron and obsidian?
Deadpool Dec 1, 2018 @ 12:10pm
You can get iron from hotfeet and, I think, Warmworms. Make a platform of diamond, using tar and freeze bombs to make it coal and fire bombs to turn the coal to diamond. Then close it in with walls and a roof. You can either leave a door to go and kill them or build a teleport trap to a water tank to kill them and collect the loot. I'd read up on Entuland's guide for spawners in teh guide section - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1277537361&searchtext=entuland

The bigger you make the platform, the more spawns you are likely to get.

I was wondering, does it work if I do a mid-lava mid-corruption farm ?
testedsubject Dec 1, 2018 @ 4:26pm
obsidian... hunt keepas at night on the surface, collecting the night time chests. works fast enough if you really dont want to mine at all, east to find in caves or using excavators...
help is around for you if you want it...
Deadpool Dec 1, 2018 @ 4:54pm
Keepas can also appear on a diamond floor spawner...not in great numbers but I've seen it.
testedsubject Dec 1, 2018 @ 5:38pm
true that... create a very large diamond and hardened lava spawn area...
hardened lava floor area also spawns the warmworms right? and hot foot s?
you can get iron and obsidian in Iron and Diamond treasure chest too. If you make a hardened lava spawner and corrupted stone and dirt spawner, chests will spawn there too.
MyProfile Dec 2, 2018 @ 10:01am
Thats always the hardest thing to farm for me.
I so much more prefer and enjoy using excavators and find tons of iron and obsidian that way.

I love me some corruption farming though.
Skleedle Dec 2, 2018 @ 11:10am
Diamond nodes also spawn iron chests. Hardened Lava is a bit of a waste, as Diamond is prettier, spawns the same, and doesn't give you a heat meter. Also, if you run out of Fire Bomb ingredients, Smash makes Diamond of Coal, just not as much at once.

I get most of my Iron and Obsidian from chests in Corruption.

The corruption spawner is about all I do now unless I just want some warmworm teeth quickly.

Normally I like making a 32x16 corruption spawner in a corner of a claim and cover it with a stone structure.

The spawner is just for the Things. I made a guide on this recently. Basically the larger size spawner gives a better chance of a chest spawning. Once the chest spawns you will get the Things as long as the chest remains there.

My personal best Things are 14 in one 24 hour game day. The cover allows them to spawn in daylight.

Two notes:

One, you can take everything out of the chest but one count of any item in the chest.

Two, logging out and into the world will spawn another Thing.

Also note I tested with others in the world and as long as they weren't in the area logging out and in worked.

Theoretically you could keep swapping players in the area and infinitely spawn Things from that chest.

I've got about a 1/2 a mile square area bombed out all the way to the purple + 1 block of dirt or stone. At the sides, all around I have placed mineral water falls.
Its a corruption massacre.
