In the past players could easily play together just because we had central servers up to host the worlds.
Removing those servers was the main point of The Definitive Edition: it was either this or shutting the game down for everyone, cause the game wasn't profitable enough to sustain the costs of hosting worlds for free for all the players.
Port forwarding isn't a lenghty process: it takes just a few minutes assuming nothing else gets in the way, and we provide live support to all players who are willing to invest the little time needed to check whether port forwarding is feasible at all.
Nothing against your suggestion of course - just wanted to provide the information: I wish we could make things simpler, we literally can't as of right now, we barely managed to save the game from complete shutdown and it's still not clear if the game will be able to sustain the costs of keeping the development up in the near future.
We have gifted The Definitive Edition for free to all past Free to Play players (almost five million players), but if we want the development to keep up, we need to get the resources from somewhere.
There's no microtransactions anymore, there's no in-game store anymore, all the game content is part of the game - if new players want to play Creativerse they need to buy it, that's correct.
Forcing players to go through Port Forwarding (dangerous), pay for dedicated servers or host their own servers is not what the players want to choose from when they want to just casually play with their friends.
I spent nearly an hour with my friend today just to learn that the old way of connecting to each other is no longer the way to play with friends, and this quite literally is the reason why people are turning away from the game.
If the player needs to follow a lengthy guide just to learn how to play with a friend, its no longer a game worth playing. This is how the average player sees this game currently.
Plus there is no information on the store page saying you need to use a guide or any information of Port Forwarding in order to play multiplayer with your friends. This will lead to misleading actions due to not being multiplayer friendly as you need a guide in order to play with your friends for a few hours.
We have a support address and a Discord server and I am personally available to provide live support if you want - entuland#7134
You raise valid points and those points have all been taken in account when we decided not to shut the game down and try to keep it alive.
We just didn't have any other option.
If anything its great single-player but its no longer a multiplayer game, which most players are looking for.
If you haven't you can write to support@playfulstudios.com or, better, you can contact me directly on Discord - entuland#7134 - to receive live support.
