Multiplayer questions
The game looks great and I'm anxious to try it out. But I'm hoping someone can clarify how multiplayer works as I haven't been able to find a direct answer.

I'm used to hosting games on my dedicated server for friends--we typically avoid public multiplayer games for various reasons. So would a group of friends be able to create a private world (with passwords? limited user account access?) on these public servers?

Also in the game description it says that one can "venture solo" but I've also read that there is no local gameplay. So is that just a private instance on a public server too?

The devs host the worlds you play on. You can make a private world by giving it a password. You can either play solo on a world you create or you can play on one of the "Public" servers that others have created. Welcome is a good open server for people to play on as a group and it doesn't have a password.

Let me give some definitions here:

1. Server - These are the physical computers controlled by 'Playful corp - The developers'
2. Worlds - These are instances of the master world created for players.

Worlds can be created (named and instanced) on the Server. You can password protect a world created by yourself to prevent others from entering the created world.
Worlds can be played on by one more more players (solo play equals one player on a world, usually pass-worded to prevent others from disturbing you)
All worlds are stored on the Server (worlds do not exist on your local hard drive currently), therefore you must be on-line to play.(Both Steam and Creativerse)
Some worlds are set as OPEN (Public) Worlds and as such any player can enter and do anything they like on it (currently)

I hope this answers your questions.

Just to super clarify what the others have said: Yes. You will absolutely be able to play on a private world with your friends. And it will also be SOOOO much easier (and likely cheaper, unless you hosted your own server on a separate computer instead of paying for a host).

Just start a world, add in a password, tell your friends the password and your set!

No worries! Every world can be multiplayer! Your friends can perform a "search" for the name of your world and then join! Make sure and let them know your password if you have one applied to your world. Easy as that!

It's even easier if they are on your steam friends list.

Is there a server browser..or a way to play with random people? I'm really intereseted in this game, but I hate playing alone. :P

search public worlds in the forum

Actually a new sub forumn has been created specifically for public worlds. If you look there you will find various worlds available.

Don't know how to find it?
Simply go to the top of this page and click on the words...General Discussions in the line that reads "Creativerse > General Discussions > Topic Details".
Once their look on the right side of the screen for the section that says SUB FORUMS.
Click on the one that says Public Worlds.

Hmm I see this is an old post but.. I'm just curious.. If I make a multiplayer world and I then leave the world later does the world close or does it stay open for others to continue playing?

If no one is on the world, it shuts off until anyone else enters it. Backups are done at this time. Everytime you enter a world that was "off", the world time starts at about 5 in the morning. But if people are in it, it will be the time that they are experiencing.

So, it stays open, but it switches off if nobody is in it. This doesn't stop anyone from entering it if they are allowed.

Also, a very recent update has caused worlds to run a backup every 2 hours if people are in them. Apparantly, this is because of some issues with resetting worlds after a crash or some error. I have not yet experienced this, so I don't know if you can tell when a backup kicks in.
