Yeah, bug off really.

Its a serious question and I am suprised how this has not been taken to legal actions

hmmm, you have no simular like games on your gamelist, you haven't check the threads to see if thi has been brought up before, you come to the conclusion that it must be a mincraft ripoff, yet minecraft did not create the gene that this game is placed in. Have you looked at any You tube videos concerning this game? We get so many people screeming that it's a minecraft ripoff. Well if it was that Microsoft should be shutting down a few thousand games any day now. Specifically what makes you think this is a minecraft rip off? Because it uses cubes? Because it has crafting? Please check in the forumns before asking a silly question as such.

What gets me is how many people think that because its the same genre as Minecraft (and Trove and Infiniminer and so many others), that people think legal action is even possible. I think what happens is they just have a thought and pop off a question like this without even bothering to check and learn anything for themselves.

Minecraft does not own this genre. (Nor does Microsoft who just bought them)

These type of game date back to the 1970's so that would make Minecraft a ripoff of 100 other voxel games that came before it. Creativerse is in the same genre as MC yes, but it has it's own ideas and we look forward to see them.
Bloodwolff Oct 27, 2014 @ 10:09am
I think he's upset because minecraft was bought by Microsoft, but to be honest Microsoft will probably develop a more stable version of minecraft, instead of creating and not supporting mods 100% like it's previous owner

A non-java version of Minecraft would be the best thing Microsoft can do :P

Java is terrible as a games platform if not fully supported by the vanilla version of any game.

The responses in this thread caused me physical pain. Instead of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the guy, you should tell him in which ways the game stands out.
I myself actually scrolled to see if there were any threads comparing this to minecraft, and gave up after 3 minutes of doing that.
I came to see what stands out in this game that can't be modded into minecraft (not because I think minecraft is the best game in existence, but because it has the biggest community and it's pretty easy to make any mods in it)
Anyways, while looking for this question, I've seen a lot of posts talking about microtransactions.
Microtransactions on an early access EUR 20 game is a no no for me.
I don't care if it's the best game in the universe at this point.

Actually cLyde, if you had read more deeply, the store was put on vacation to be rethought out. The game is slated to be free to play so it will not cost EUR 20 when released. Currently the present cost is to help fund development of the game and as part of that they included $20 worth of in game currency for the store and at release was going to give another equal amount as well, to offset the cost that people paid for the game.

Also, there have been many posts over the months with people claiming it is a Minecraft ripoff or copy. The game has its own lore, which is decidedly more futuristic than Minecraft. The artwork and special effects are more polished and clean looking. It does have a certain cartoonish quality to the machines. Outside of certain base materials mirroring Minecraft's, it is a little difficult to copyright dirt and grass. It has its own upper end materials, after diamond you have Lumite...which its its own mystery substance which seems linked with the futuristic back story. The game has a feel of a world that was once advanced but devolved before you got there...little in the way of ruins so far but technology is found and made along the way the imply there was once an advanced civilization.

The developers have stated that they have loved gaming for a long time and love Minecraft, their goal is to make a game that takes the concept to the next level. One really handy feature I like is the crouch feature...slows you down while building but it keeps you from falling off edges so you can expand out on edges and not worry too much about falling. The game starts off with people have home teleporters so when you make a base you can plant your teleporter and you can always make it home if you get in trouble...as long as you have the 5 seconds to teleport. You can also craft point to point portals. There are currently 5 kinds of lights in the game, 4 you can craft and one someone on my server had found but cannot get a recipe yet. The game does not have alternate dimensions, at least not yet. Currently the deeper you dig the more dangerous it gets, you reach stalagmite layers then you find a lava layer, usually it is a larger cavern filled with lava and creatures related to it. Deeper down, you find the corruption layer where the best resources and worst creatures live. If you can capture enough ground blocks from these lower layers you can try to make a miniature biome on the surface with those blocks. Monsters will spawn where those blocks are that are appropriate for that biome.

The reason why people in this thread have been terse or hostile towards the OP is due to the repeated nature of the statement. There have been long discussions a while back on this. Often a 3 minute search is not enough when you may have pages of messages to go back since the last one.

I dont think it's a rip off, for the legit reasons above, but being a cautious customer I'd like to know what exactly is being put on the table that's innovative from Minecraft besides a different theme like being more futuristic.
Laryagar Oct 27, 2014 @ 2:48pm
Essentially it is a refinement. It takes the genre's core nature and tries to elevate it and polish it to a high gloss. Things like the teleporters and portals enhance a community nature to the server based worlds. People can build their own build and still connect to the others without making it an arduous journey to reach them. Allowing everyone to have a large build as they want but allowing socialization. Refinements like the crouch command and others are those small but often become crucial touches that make it better. The game is not written in a language like Java so it can run more smoothly and efficiently. It is the hundred little touches that make it feel like a better game. It is obviously still alpha stage and a lot of features are still coming down the road. Right now this is the core. The Store will makes its appearance again as well and will be refined with user feedback.

The Developers are very interactive with the users and will visit their worlds online for feedback as well as posting on here. They respond to user feedback so the users actually have some say in the development. In Minecraft, frankly the only real way for users to make the game the way they want is to make mods that do what they wanted, with no support from Mojang. At one point there was talk of allowing mods to this game as well, but I have no idea how that would be implemented.

3 minutes huh? Well, I guess that depends on how fast or slow you read and what you were looking for in your scrolling. Secondly, these are very active forums and we get a thread like this weekly, sometimes even more than one. I wish to god I knew how to link threads just so I could link them. There would be over a dozen. So its quite easily that the threads have shifted pages because we and the devs communicate so much.

We as a community have repeatedly responded to these types of threads and comments, with usually at least one person taking the time to include links to threads, videons, and lots of commentary about how they differ. What usually happens (not always, but most of the time) is that the OP doesn't bother to comment further, making the single - usually antagonistic, sometimes inflammatory - appear as if they are nothing more than trolls. If we take the time to post and give them information (which they could have found out for themselves if they were truly interested), and they don't bother to respond further.. how would YOU interpret that?

Just look at the OP. They use the word 'ripoff' which is a negative. They ask 'what the hell am I seeing in this game that its NOT taken from Minecraft?' Then they proceed to comment and say that they are surprised there has not been legal action, which clearly shows their lack of knowledge. You want to call us on the carpet, cLyde, for '♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥' them? There wasn't much of that really. Oddball doesn't even own the game and clearly hasn't done any research about it.

I dont mind when someone asks an intelligent question without being inflammatory or hostile about it, especially when they've taken the time to find out a little bit more about what they are asking about, rather than just saying 'spoon feed me' like you seem to think we should.

You guys have done such a wonderful job responding to many, many of these types of threads. I know it's repetitive and sometimes borders on antagonistic, but underneath most question threads like this is often a genuine interest in what makes this game different - with a tentative hope that it might be worth purchasing.

Thanks again ya'll - for continuing to welcome new players, even the skeptics. And thank you for continuing to be so supportive of us and the work we're doing.

Just because a game is RTS or FPS like another video game is not really a rip off. This is like a sandbox block mode. Mine craft is different because of both its story line, mobs and content. That said no offence but I believe that mine craft could still be getting money even with this game improved. (PS Who doesn't like playing the classics that started it all?) :steamhappy:

This game stands why out because of the less blockyness to the appearance, mobs and set up. This game is definitely awesome and fun. I'd recommend it to any one. <:) I mean it to.

The only way I would consider this game a Minecraft ripoff is that it stole my time away from Minecraft.
