[CLOSED] Build & Share Contest #163 - Origami
Build & Share Information
This is a generally bi-weekly (lately tri-weekly) contest starting today and ends two to four weeks on the next Saturday. We do not expect jaw dropping builds, but expect an attempt at making something very suitable for the contest. Please have fun with the builds, and know this is to challenge you and build things you have never done before.

AvatarAlice made a guide for the B&S and it includes a load of information:

This will be everything you need to know about the B&S or Build & Share contest, from basics and beyond.

The Contest Deadline:
Saturday, February 1st. If anyone needs the contest extended beyond that, just ask.

The Theme of the Contest:
This almost should be a summer theme. Believe it or not, I was quite the handful as a young sheep. My father was working at the Pentagon in the U.S. My mother worked (when she could) for a local art shop. She was (and still is) a painter. Yes, that's right. She's still alive & kicking, and still painting!

It just so happens that Washington D.C. is home to the Smithsonian museum. My mother worked for them, too. She drew or painted many of their specimens.

Now, as I mentioned, I was quite a handful as a young sheep. My mother didn't know what to do with me, especially in the summer when we have no school. So she brought me to work one day. Her boss was a big fan of origami, so he introduced me to his hobby while my mother worked. He had no skill in it himself, but he had collected a few finished specimens, as well as some high-quality sheets of folding paper. He gave me a few of these as well as a book from one of his favorite origami "authors". That author turned out to be none other than one John Montroll. (Just Google that name. You'll get the idea.)

My first attempts were terrible. I had no skill and no practice. But I had determination! It wasn't long before I could fold the easiest animals. Then I worked my way up to more intermediate fare. Within a couple years, I could fold the most difficult models. (My fingers were more nimble then. At my age today, I probably couldn't, unless the paper was 2 feet on a side.) And at the end of a decade, I was designing my own models.

Real life has achievements and progresses in difficulty a lot like video games. Go fig.

So my mother succeeded (or rather, her boss did) in finding something to occupy me for the summer, and for many summers to come. I got into no more trouble that summer, I wasn't wading in the creek all day, I wasn't out climbing hills when it got dark, and she didn't have to worry about finding me "dead in a ditch somewhere" (her favorite phrase).

It occurs to me that recreating origami in Creativerse would be a snap. Even something you couldn't fold--or even design--in real life is easily depicted in the game.

So this Build & Share is just that! Build anything origami. Whether real life, fantastical, something you've done, or something that could only exist in the imagination. Planes, animals, even simple boxes. (My mother's boss had a pyramid of origami boxes, which fascinated me at first, until I realized how simple they were. i.e. until my skill grew to the point that I was no longer impressed. This is the standard human condition when learning a skill.)

Creativerse is a "verse" of creation, and your chance to build something that's not even possible in the real world! So let your imagination run free!
