Attempting to build a Volcano Completly from scratch
Any tips or advice as to what blocks I should use in the building of it? I do not want to use Igneous rock except for near the top as the outside of volcanoes is not how real volcano naturally look.

As for the size I have yet to measure the exact dimensions of the outer circle yet as I'm using lights to create myself an irregular shape as my blue print. However from the center of the area I'm working in I determine maybe about 45 blocks high (possibly higher). I would of course be tunneling down to the lava layer after building it.

Also if I want it to look like it is erupting how would I accomplish this without the lava hardening?

You're going to want to do this whole thing in a warm/hot biome. I can't get lava to stay lava unless it's ~130 degrees. And that even required a lot of hardened lava below it.

So, block - Hardened Lava. Tons. Basically every block that forms the volcano, regardless of shape. Otherwise that bad boy isn't going to flow. Like at all.

Temp is something that still needs some tweaking.

My advice - build it now and wait for the update in which blocks/liquids are more independent from the biome/ambient temp. If you build it and the lava doesn't flow, then at least you can take your tour group through and say, "This is where the volcano *used* to be..."

I swear that there most be some way to affect ambient temperature... as someone has an entire ice are right next to a bunch of normal temperature areas at the spawn in the world I am playing in. However I will take that advice, granted given where I decided to build means I might be SOL as far as using lava goes :/ base ambient temperature is 59

the information about heatmanagment should valid for this project too.

my advice for using liquid lava in a rather big area: split it into smaller segments. its a lot easier to connect smaller segments than filling a big area at once.

building an erupting vulcano is nearly impossible i guess if you also wanna have lava flying around. if the vulcano is too high the temperatue will be too low for any kind of lava. you'll end up with igneous rock.

the temperature/fluid simulation takes some time to kick in. as long as you are fast enough to place a couple block to create a stable enviroment it should work

well you can create a fire though like it was coming out of tht volcano mouth rather thn just plain lava flowing out

you can try tar flowing to lava then it will catch fire but probably not for long but i guess good enough for one screenshot :steamhappy: can also try with any wood block put near lava for fire effect XD

I recommend converting a canyon mountain. The shape is already there, just cover the outside with igneous rock and then line the inside with hardened lava.

I'm not saying the lava will work, but if I was going to attempt a huge volcano that's how I would do it. try to keep the lava liquid in a small area where the opening will be. If it stays liquid, continue building down and converting.

Getting that shape of such a large structure to not appear artificial is the real challenge, use an existing mountain as a wireframe.
