Corruption Dust?
Hey all, just started back up and playing after a good break. So I notice an ingredient for a diamond mining cell is "Corruption Dust x2" ..... So my question is, how or where am I supposed to find corrupted mobs when I can't even get to the corrupted layer yet due to not having a diamond mining cell. I've been all over the deepest layers I can go to with my Iron minging cell, and still no luck in finding corrupted mobs. Any ideas on this? Biome specific locations I need to find?

Happy Creating!

You can use an iron cell to break through into The Corruption. You just have to keep working your way lower and lower. You'll know you're close when you see the corruption meter pop up. Once you uncover corrupted dirt and stone, you'll know that you've hit The Corruption. Be careful because you're on the ceiling of it. You basically need to clear it until you can enter it and kill corruped mobs to get the dust.

That's what I've been doing. Problem is, my iron mining cell isnt letting me break trough the corruption layer.

you need the diamond cell to collect corrupted blocks. iron isn't going to cut it bud. if you've managed to find any diamond nodes yet ( or have discovered the other trick ) i strongly suggest crafting a set of diamond gear (cell, sword and armor) before going into the Corruption Layer for the first time. you can get away with iron gear but it is really tedious trying to kill corrupted mobs with an iron sword.

Hiya BFX Walker,

Make sure you're looking at the right recipe -- diamond mining cell takes:
  • 4x Diamond
  • 2x Iron Slab
  • 4x Tourmaline
  • 5x Hardened Lava
  • 8x Ice
-- all stuff you ought to be able to collect with an iron cell. You might be looking at the recipe for the lumite cell, which, while nice to have, isn't necessary to break into the corrupted layer.

a diamond sword also takes corroupt dust

oh yes i sometimes forget about recipe changes. ok well with that in mind, you will beable to craft stun bombs or even armor piercing bombs to assist you in hunting the corrupted critters. stun bombs work great and are reletively cheap to craft.

Use bombs to kill the corruption mobs easier. Bring a good amount and try making a teleport down for easy travel. You'll more than likely die when starting to farm but it gets easy with upgraded gear.

There is also another solution that does not need a diamond cell (yet): create a large (at least 10x10 blocks, but even larger is very recommended) "room" by mining away only the lava-layer rocks/blocks and leaving the corrupted blocks as a floor of this "room". 3 blocks high should be sufficient.

Leave the area, wait for a while, go back there again. Before long, corrupted mobs are going to spawn on these blocks and you can kill or tame them to get corruption dust. Perhaps drop a block of water at the entrance of this room to stand in it to be safe. And keep an eye on the heat-scale AND the corruption-scale - both afflictions are dangerous.

this is an excellent strategy, i suggest doing what Eveaustria has said. never considered building a farm like that before, great out of the box thinking :)

Whoa, smart strategy! Dangerous to fight both elemental effects, but with a sweet potential payoff.
