Even if there was an option to hide the block highlighting on a specific area, they would still have the compass that would easily tell them in what direction they're heading. Probably that's hidden in the adventures, can't recall.
Another thing that would make it pretty hard to confuse players (at least those that have some experience with the game) is that there are very few blocks that don't provide clues about the orientation of the block itself and the fact that you're using slopes rotated sideways to make diagonal tunnels.
To achieve what you want we'd need the ability to impose the hiding of compass and highlight of blocks, plus blocks that have textures that don't provide any hint whatsoever and couldn't be distinguished if placed straight as full blocks or diagonally as slopes.
None of that is available as of now, as far as I can tell.
Also, the issue with aiming at them and placing other bars in the wrong position is mostly due to the way the game computes which side the block goes when you try to place them: that's pretty surely due to trying to place them at a too steep angle, and changing your position to aim at the bars in a "straighter" way should help.
There are other blocks that "suffer" of the same problem even though they don't have a narrow hitbox (pretty much all the fences are prone to such misplacement of new blocks).
Hopefully they'll find a way to ease the way we deal with Iron Bars in particular, cause many players consider them quite annoying, in particular when it comes to dismantling already placed ones.
it doesn't rly matter about orientation, as long as they all follow the same rotational symmetry. if that means i have to add blocks instead of retract them to make them symmetrical then so be it. e.g. one side is grass and the other is dirt, i can have them all following a clockwise pattern etc. or attempt it.
I guess that's a start, that the block highlight can be turned off, however like you said the compass kinda spoils it for maze building imo. i don't think creativerse is rly geard up to maze creation imo, or if there are mazes, they just remain very simple ones. lacking depth and interactivity etc. also with the textures, well in that case you need blocks that don't have multi side texture but just that texture is the same throughout, e.g. if its a slope your talking about, just use galactic hull etc. i mean sure it would look better as hedge/grass slope but if that wont work for reasons specified, just put caps on each corner, I'm talking particularly about a radial maze (like those used for rats in labs, 8 way split junction. Now i'm kinda wishing i made this in Minecraft, as there is far more creativity as far as mazes go in minecraft than creativerse, if i have to install a mod to make that happen then so be it. but its unlikely ill do that now with how much progress has already been made on the maze, many simple (made by colleague). However mine was far more in depth than his. in that it had these junctions, where you had to choose between 7 different paths..
