Creativerse

How does my husband join my world?
I migrated my world but now the following is happening:
I don't show in his Friends tab when searching for the server (yes we are friends on Steam)
He cannot find the world regardless of whether I set it to private or whitelist or whatever.

In very simple terms that don't involve linking me to the Google doc that we've pored over a million times:
How does he join my world so that we can play together again?

Many thanks

In Steam library, use the pull down to access "Tools", get the "Creativerse dedicated server".

This is needed to run a server.

Sorry but this is that google Doc that explains how to set up a server. (For anyone ELSE that might read this post)

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rAeuk7qFinUyPRJGk4x6Dim3rmQN2zoLaR3PNR0roU4/edit#

The important part is the Port forwarding of your router if you are trying to allow others to have access to the server.

These 2 things were the tools used to allow my friend and me to access the same map.

He has a dedicated computer running the server and it's accessed through the internet. (He's in another state)

There is also a section on using a local area network (LAN) BUT only those near you and on the LAN would be able to play.

I'm sorry if this isn't very helpful, but you need to ask more specific questions to get better help.

What does that Creativerse dedicated server tool actually do? I installed it clicked Launch and it did nothing?

We're on the same Internet connection, how would port forwarding help me at all?

It's a migrated server that we both used to play on quite happily, it was our world we both built on. Since this change to the Definitive Edition we can't play together any more?

Thanks, this gave us enough information to work it out, we ended up having to use internal IP address (after we found that) and doing a direct link. (We don't have a LAN set up). However, if CheeseBeast isn't playing (or has PC on with it running in the background), I can't get access to the world.

Get the impression they didn't consider people playing from the same household, we can't be the only ones in this situation. Imagine a lot of partners and/or Parents&Kids are going to be stuck the same way. The doc they put out (and you linked above) doesn't cover this situation very well.

And many thanks for helping on this holiday day!

The guide has a networking section explaining how you could keep the server running separately from the client, so that the world can be accessed by another computer behind the same LAN (or even outside of it, with port forwarding) without the need for the "runner" of the world to keep the client running at all.

If the guide isn't clear enough or you need any help feel free to get in touch directly with me either writing to support@playfulstudios.com (I reply there) or far better, on Discord (entuland#7134) - I have helped many players with live voice support and screen sharing so that I could guide them through all the checks eyes-on the various interfaces.

I'm pretty much all the time around, even during the holidays, feel free to send me a message on Discord anytime, even if I'm apparently offline - if I'm around at all and available to help, I'll reply right away.
