I was able to connect thru LAN while my friend was sitting in my livingroom, but we have no idea how to play together from different locations or make our worlds visible to each other on public list.
way for you to play together from different locations without having a separate server though.
When you play a Local world, it starts up a version of the Creativerse server just for you. However, if you enable port forwarding then people in other locations can join your Local world too. The difference here is that once you shut down your Local world, the server also shuts down. So players can only join your world when you're playing. You can also enable Whitelisting so that only your friends can join your world.
If you'd like to do this, here's the link to a helpful Guide for Port Forwarding [www.noip.com]
Not sure about under the hood on Creativerse. But normaly you can play together like on lan, your then on the same internet.
But when your on diffrent locations you need to connect to your friends network. There is a huge pile of info on how to do that with various software and stuff.
The far more eaiser is to ask internet provider about a public IP. This make it possible to connect to your friend without beeing on their lan.

Private World (Do Not Announce)
"This setting causes the world not to be announced and not to show up in the Online Public lists. The world may still be visible in the LAN tab and players knowing the correct IP / port could still find it and join. This is NOT a security measure to prevent players from entering your world."
Require Whitelisting to Join (Player Access File)
"This setting causes the server to use an access file with all the whitelisted players. Players will not be able to join if they're not whitelisted. Players will be able to request access to your world via a button in your world card. You'll be able to review, accept and refuse requests from the WebAdmin and from the [TODO Player List]. Admins and Mods will be able to review/accept/refuse from the Player List as well."
These settings descriptions come from Playful's Guide [docs.google.com]. Their Guide is very useful, but doesn't delve into setting up the standalone server in quite the same level of detail as my one.
Edit: Although my guide was written based on Windows 10, I'm not aware of anything in Windows 11 that would prevent you from using it to set up a dedicated Creativerse Server.
Big thanks for this! Was pretty easy to follow. I just wonder if I missed something, as my world only seems to show up in the LAN tab and not the Public tab.
When you run the dedicated server, the world will only show up in the LAN tab for computers running the game client in the same network as the server. So all computers in your home will see it on the LAN tab.
On the other hand, players outside your network will see your world in the Public tab if you have port forwarding enabled. If you'd like to test this, just let me know the name of your world and I'll have a look for it.
I wondered if that was how it would work but wasn't sure.
World name is "The well rounded block".
Just testing things out so ill leave it up for a couple more hours to see how it runs on my potato.
Thanks again!
